Of Supernatural (*Shake, Shake*)

Do you love Supernatural? How about Taylor Swift? Parodies? All of the above?

Okay, so I wouldn't say I *love* Taylor Swift, but her music is damn catchy, and I do adore Supernatural and parodies, so this is officially my favorite thing of the week! Behold, The Hillywood Show presents "Supernatural".

And the fact that a good portion of the cast shows up to participate? Perfection! Not to mention the number of in-jokes referenced in the video. LOVE!

Of Bookish Shoes and Literary Love

I like to announce my love of books and all things nerdy loud and clear. What better way than with bookish apparel? Last year, I made a pair of Harry Potter themed high heels.

Today, I came across a blog post from Book Riot on Bookish Shoes for Literary Feet. It features some amazing shoes, like this pair of Doctor Who inspired flats:

This pair of Marvel themed combat boots:

And this pair of comic book converse sneakers:

I would wear just about any of the shoes in this post, and already have some...

Of Musical Reinterpretations and Fandom Mash-Ups

Some television series premiere before their time. They're edgy. They're thoughtful. They're addicting. And inevitably, they flounder and leave us all too soon. Firefly was one of those series. Yes, I'm a proud Browncoat, and I still lament what could have been.

A moment of silence for Serenity and her crew
But such is life and the television landscape. And, just because it's gone, doesn't mean it's forgotten. The opening theme song from Firefly got a new life, recently, when Jesse...

Of Pranks and PG-13 Ratings

I do not like practical jokes, but this is the exception. Perfect way to announce the official rating for the upcoming Deadpool movie. I have such high hopes!

Of Fifty Shades and Romanticizing Abuse

I have many issues with 50 Shades of Grey. I don't have issues with sex, sexual expression, female sexuality, the BDSM lifestyle, or the fictionalized or non-fictionalized account of any of the above. What I have issues with is abuse, and the glorification of abuse, and the defense of abuse as something other than--you know--abuse. (The other issues I have with this series, which are of an intellectual property nature, can wait for another blog post.) You want to read erotica? Be my guest. BD...

Of Chuck Wendig and Meninism

My love of Chuck Wendig is no secret. Quotes like the following are the reason why:
Men who think they've been victimized by feminism are like burglars who sue the homeowners they were burgling because they stubbed their toe on a fucking coffee table.
-Chuck Wendig
YESSSSSSSS! Yes.
Yes.

Of Candy Canes and Christmas Cheer

Christmas is over--it went by in its usual blur this year--but I want to take a moment anyhow to share one of my favorite Christmas characters. Some people are obsessed with the Rankin and Bass specials or A Charlie Brown Christmas. Those are fine and good, but there's something about sketch comedy holiday silliness that I just love this time of year. And one of the absolute best sketch Christmas characters is Minty the Candy Cane (that briefly fell on the ground). Seriously, I've been hummin...

Of Holiday Crafts and Tree Decorations

I love crafting. I don't have much time for it, but sometimes I take the time anyway. This year, I've decided to try my hand at ornament making.

When Nick and I first started living together, our Christmas trees were rather traditional, the ornaments a combination of hand-me-downs and Dollar Store multi-packs. Each year, we add more eccentric ornaments to our tree, replacing the old bulbs with decorations that fit our style and preferences. Nick's style can only be described as random. Serious...

Of Good Omens and a Very Merry Christmas

Good Omens is the literary equivalent of comfort food to me--the really good comfort food like your grandma makes that no one else can come close to replicating and when you want it, you want IT, and nothing else will do. That's Good Omens. I don't have to be in a certain mood or mind-frame to read it. I know at anytime I can pull it from the shelf, choose a page at random, and contentedly spend the remainder of the evening laughing to myself and being generally thankful writers like Neil Gai...

Reblog: Growing Up Poor and the HEA

I love the Wonkomance blog for a number of reasons. It centers around the romance genre, but it's so much more than the typical author, reader, or reviewer blog (not that there is anything wrong with any of those typical blogs). If you want insightful commentary and content that really cuts to the heart of the sometimes hidden, sometimes ignored, sometimes overlooked aspects of romance and the romance genre, Wonkomance is the place to go.

Yesterday, authors Audra North and Charlotte Stein crea...
