Happy Valentine's Day

Being a romance writer, erotic or otherwise, I guess it's appropriate for me to start my Goodreads Blog on the day which for no apparent reason except for a line in Chaucer is associated with Love.

It's been a busy month for me: my first ebook release and all the work at promoting it.
My Sexy Valentine featuring my novella, "My Valentine Prince"
(If any of you read it - PLEASE review it here, and on Amazon and Barnes & Nobles????)

No one told me in advanced how much work an author has to do AFTER the book is released. I find myself with no time to actually WRITE.

I posted an old, somewhat odd story of mine here,, and the only fun I've had in a week was creating a cover for it while teaching myself how to use Paint.Net.

So "Leper" now has a strange looking cover to go with the strange tale of a man's growing love as he faces his personal nightmare. Literally.

Let me know what you think of both the story & the cover.

On the other hand, I've been making new friends by the hands-full.

Now that, too, is a mixed blessing. I love some of these people for their sharp wit and humor and their support of me as a baby writer. But to keep up those relationships I spend a great deal more time on Facebook, in group discussions here, and in email groups when I want to be doing. You've got it: WRITING.

So I selected a Call For Submissions from a publisher and started to write for a 3/1 deadline. A minimum of 5k words. So far I have an idea on the theme requested - which is half the battle in writing one of these things. The last time I had a good idea for a Call of Submissions, I was int he middle of a 20,000 word rewrite from first person to third person while changing the ending of the damned novella totally. So I watched that deadline slip by with only getting some research done for it.

So wish me luck on "Our First Time Together" about a long time couple's first ever three-way. I haven;pt decided on the gender of the third person for these two guys yet; I'm still creating them.

My lover is always puzzled by how passionate I get about my characters, saying "They aren't real people" - missing the point that the only way I can write is for me to create them as living people in my head. They can literally haunt my dreams until I get them on the computer or even paper.

I started off with one piece of Valentine's Day trivia - that non one knows how one of the two or three Saint Valentine's who used to be remembered by the Catholic Church on 2/14 got associated with romance. (They were removed form the Calender in 1968)

Here's another bit of trivia.

Most people know the song "My Funny Valentine" by Rodgers & Hart, which ends with the line "Each day is Valentine's Day". Well, the song had nothing to do with the holiday; it was written for a Broadway show and sung to a character NAMED Valentine - which explains the odd intro and somewhat belligerent tone:

Behold the way our fine feathed friend
His virtue doth parade.
Thou knowest not, my dim-witted friend,
the picture thou hast made.
Thy vacant brow, and thy tousled hair
conceal thy good intent.
Thou noble, upright, truthful, sincere,
and slightly dopey gent.

You're my funny Valentine,
Sweet comic Valentine,
You make me smile with my heart.
Your looks are laughable, unphotographable,
Yet you're my favorite work of art.

Is your figure less than Greek?
Is your mouth a little weak?
When you open it to speak, are you smart?

But don't change a hair for me
Not if you care for me,
Stay, little Valentine, stay!
Each day is Valentine's Day.

###

Fill your days and nights with love. Each day IS then Valentine's Day, even if you're single.
