Defending The Eagle Named Best Historical Fiction Book in 2025
I received some great news in December. Defending The Eagle has been named the Winner of the Best Historical Fiction book in 2025 by the International Impact Book Awards.
The House Commander and I will be heading out to Phoenix to attend the Black Tie Awards ceremony in February. I'm not a big fan of formal occasions but this is a little different. My second book went through several delays and unexpected delays before finally being published.
I chose to use a new publisher who held the final manuscript for more than eight months without providing any comments or edits for review.
I wasn't comfortable with the new publisher and made a decision to use a different company. I explained to the new publisher that I wanted to have the book finalized and published in less than four months. They explained to me that would be a challenge, but they would do their best. They did a great job and had the book done in less than 14 weeks.
If you decide to pick it up and give it a read, I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. Have a great remainder of the week and I wish you all the best in 2026.

Good Start
Defending The Eagle is off to a good start. It hit a few snags along the publishing process and was released almost eight months beyond what I had expected. I was not entirely happy with the first new publisher and ended up moving on with Spines.
The delay was actually a blessing in disguise. My Uncle, a WWII veteran in the Marines, passed away during the process. I had an individual in the book that I referred to by his position as the Brigade Executive Officer. The delay allowed me to go back in and write the story using my uncle's name and that is how Lieutenant Colonel Kasper came to be.
I think it has become a very fitting tribute to my uncle and I hope he is looking down and smiling. May God bless him and all our veterans who have paid the ultimate price in service to our country.

Defending The Eagle Release
Good news, the second book in the Carson Series should be released in the next couple of weeks. I just approved the final artwork for the front and back cover and am working with the publisher on the rollout.
If you have ever worked with or for a narcissist either in the military or in the civilian world you will relate to the situations that arise in book 2. As always I hope you enjoy reading this book as much as I enjoyed writing it.
God bless all our veterans and those currently serving our country in the Armed Forces.

Huge Price Reductions
Amazon currently has substantially reduced the price of all three versions of my book (kindle, paperback, and hardcover). The hardcover version is currently being sold at a 56% discount bringing the final price below the price of the paperback.
I'm not exactly sure of the why around this sale but I would like to think it is in celebration of another award won by "Of Vital Interest". My debut novel was recently named a Finalist in the Book Excellence Awards. It may also be tied to the pending release of my next book, "Defending the Eagle" which is scheduled for release before the end of July.
Whatever the reason, I have no control over Amazon's pricing or how long this sale will last. I just wanted to let the readers and potential readers know that my book is currently priced lower than any other time since it was released.
Thanks for your support and wish everyone all the best.

Awards Ceremony
Heading out to Phoenix this Friday to receive my award from the International Impact Book Awards. Feels a little odd as I never expected to win an award for my book. I knew it was a good book when I finished it but I don't think any writer ever expects to win an award for what they have written.
I am about halfway through writing the next book. I would expect the release date to be sometime this summer.
Have a great remainder of the week and wish everyone all the best.

Of Vital Interest, Carson Trilogy Book One
My current plan is to write three books as part of this story. Book two is currently being written and looks to be pretty darn good. I am very happy with it so far.
Additionally, I am planning to write an extra book for each of the remaining linguists (Sara, Aisha, and Wafiq) to let people know about their journey after leaving the fight in Iraq.
I there are any questions about Of Vital Interest or the characters please feel free to let me know. I appreciate your interest in my story.

Writing Style
Just to let everyone know a little about the way I wrote Of Vital Interest. I spend a few weeks to a month writing an outline by chapter that I try to follow. It makes it easier for me to keep the story moving in the direction I want it to go.
I also do a character sketch of the main characters to keep focused on who they are when I write. There are always lesser characters that show up in the story without effecting the major themes or outcomes. Sometimes I like to style those characters kind of like extras in a movie. If I go back and use them again in another book I might expand their presence and build upon their character sketch.
Writing is a great joy to me and I hope everyone enjoys reading my books as much as I enjoy writing them.

My Saturday Morning
My wife and I signed up for a winter running series out here in Virginia. We live in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia but none of the races are more than an hour drive from us.
It has been a humbling experience so far. My times keep getting better but they still aren't where I would like them to be. The group we are running in has some very fast runners even in my age group.
I like this type of running. My goal is to run better each time out. So far, so good. There are only two races left and then I can start focusing on the spring and summer seasons.
If it is possible get outside and enjoy nature for awhile this weekend. There is always something different to see, from a blooming flower to animal life.
Have a great day everyone.
