But when I ask why they don't sit down and do it, the answer I get most often is something like, Oh, I could never write an entire book.

Wrong! All a would-be author needs is one good idea. Once you have that don't think about the 60, 70, or 80 thousand missing words in front of you. Just think about the very first sentence. Write it is as well as you possibly can. Make it interesting. Write it in such a way that it'll grip readers by the back of the neck and shove their noses closer to the page. After that, you just might be surprised at how easily the second sentence comes to you, and the third, and the fourth, and the..... . (less)

All I need for inspiration is for him to "deliver" a worthwhile idea to me. Once that happens I'm on it. (less)

Is it possible that for more than twenty years a man can be deeply in love with two different women?

My newest novel delves into that possibility. Entitled "Forever Three", it is the stand-alone-sequel to the internationally acclaimed best seller "Beyond Nostalgia." What follows are the opening paragraphs.

Chapter 1 - How It Was

"People may think there’s nothing worse than to have never loved another, but I don’t buy that for a minute. The way I see it, it’s impossible to miss what you never had. Read more of this blog post »

“You never finish writing a novel, you eventually abandon it.”
Tom Winton

“I once believed soft, warm, beautiful things could never flourish in an environment of hard concrete and cold, dark bricks.”
Tom Winton

“A man can learn from his past mistakes, and he should, but reliving them…that does absolutely no good. If you rehash all the poor choices and decisions you’ve made, it’s like stabbing yourself again and again. Your spirit will always carry its deepest scars. There’s no way to eliminate them. And from time to time, they’ll come out of hiding on their own. When they do, let them reprimand you. Take what’s coming, ride it out, get it over with. But by all means, don’t ever entertain them any longer than you have to, and never invite them back.”
Tom Winton, Four Days with Hemingway's Ghost

Tom Winton STROLL THE STREETS OF KEY WEST WITH PAPA HEMINGWAY – FOUR DAYS WITH HEMINGWAY’S GHOST WILL INSPIRE YOU – 350 fantabulous reviews!

“As we walked on in silence, I thought about the man alongside me. Although I had just hooked up with him the day before, I’d not only witnessed some of his emotional displays, but I’d felt them as well. To say I was surprised by his heartfelt actions would be a huge understatement. After all, Ernest Hemingway—the man, the myth, the legend he’d become—had been forged from more than just his literary accomplishments. He was supposed to have been a hard man, with thick skin and calluses on his knuckles and heart. But I already knew differently. That was not the Ernest Hemingway I was walking with in the predawn darkness. This man had neither a stainless steel persona nor heart.”
