We’re halfway through Summer 2026. Welcome back!

I spent a day in July at the California State Fair. I ruined my diet a bit with ice cream and a sangria slushie (not at the same sitting), and managed to not ruin my feet thanks to wearing broken-in shoes. The wine bar (shown in this post’s featured image) is always great to hang out in, and it seems like the musicians always play my favorite song for my walk-in music.

We’re heading into July 2026, and the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States of America. For those of you who have the 4th of July, enjoy it, and those who don’t, well, you should probably get a new calendar so your Saturday doesn’t disappear.

I’ll be getting away for a day or two, enjoying some fireworks and some editing, and feeling glad that my works-in-progress pile isn’t quite at 250 works (yet).

As I write this, we’re a touch under three weeks from summer. It didn’t snow in April where I live, despite Prince’s best efforts, but we’re coming out of one of the rainiest springs I can remember in California.

I’m back with an update, and some good news on two long-awaited projects. My contemporary paranormal novel is coming in the next week or two, and the omnibus Mendocino volume that I’ve been promising for almost two years is in the final stages (again/still) for an ebook and paperback...

A bit of recent history to open with, and luckily there are no uncomfortable frogs involved or affected.

In 2024, I wrote every day. In 2025, I gave myself permission to not write every day, and did not use that permission–I think I missed one day that year. maybe

For 2026, I renewed that permission and, well, overused it. In April I wrote four days.

No real reasons for this, other than relaxing a bit too much and putting off some changes to one of my longer stories.

Just under four weeks until Novel November, my readers. I’ll be participating again, which means I need to get “You Are My Water, My World” out the door before then, or at least into final processes.

As many of my readers know, I wrote in the National Novel Writing Month project for a couple of years in the 2000s. NaNoWriMo has closed down after some rough years for the organization, but the effort and inspiration and communities are going forward.

First of all, I have a couple of new shorts coming by the end of the year if all goes well, and one novel-length work should be out by then as well. Things are going slower for September so far, but I can work on that.
