October 2025 with Marklin

Just under four weeks until Novel November, my readers. I’ll be participating again, which means I need to get “You Are My Water, My World” out the door before then, or at least into final processes.

As many of my readers know, I wrote in the National Novel Writing Month project for a couple of years in the 2000s. NaNoWriMo has closed down after some rough years for the organization, but the effort and inspiration and communities are going forward.

Read my thoughts and some ways to get i...

Is it novel season yet?

First of all, I have a couple of new shorts coming by the end of the year if all goes well, and one novel-length work should be out by then as well. Things are going slower for September so far, but I can work on that.

As some of you know, I wrote in the National Novel Writing Month events for a couple of years in the 2000s. I met a couple of other writers (including Brandon) there, and had a lot of words that have been sitting idle for 15+ years from those projects.

NaNoWriMo folded ear...

Heading into September with a novel on the way

Hi, readers and friends.

I left you in the dark for July and August, but I got a bit of mojo working again. Let’s look back and then look forward. Spoiler: one of my newer novels is about to be published.

Image unrelated, but I’d welcome you to try out NightCafe with my referral link. It’s fun, and can be free if you’re patient. Create a free image a day while you build up your free credits.

This is a public post also published on my Patreon. I welcome you to follow or subscribe o...

An early July 2025 update

We’re coming to the end of June, and while I’ve been writing all month, it’s been a slower month than I expected. Featured image is unrelated to anything in this post.

This is a public update (and will be crossposted to my Patreon). Patreon members will get some exclusive/early-access content this month or next, so please consider supporting me at patreon.com/marklinfoster.

The New Roommate is still developing, with a fourth woman now in the picture. I added 5k to it over the last month, a...

June 2025 update

I’m a bit late on June’s update, but having seen a fellow author’s mid-June update, I thought I should get something out for you. This is a public update (and will be crossposted to my Patreon). Patreon members will get some exclusive/early-access content this month or next, so please consider supporting me at patreon.com/marklinfoster.

In May I started on a couple of short stories, pushed through another 10k words on You Are My Water, My World, and started rewriting a story I began in Januar...

Getting the Mendocino omnibus done, and the latest novel too

Over the past few days, I aggregated and trimmed the six (6!) (not six factorial) volumes that make up the Mendocino series into one document, and loaded it into Reedsy (my editing/formatting tool).

With it all in one book, the “where we’ve been” and “what’s next” parts aren’t needed, and of course I trimmed out the rest of the extraneous/duplicate front and back matter.

Still, it’s currently 50 chapters, a little over 61,000 words, and the final bit isn’t quite complete yet. However, I ...

May 2025 Update

Welcome to the fifth month, readers. I’m here with a wrap-up of April and what you can look forward to in May and June. This is a public update (and will be crossposted to my Patreon). Patreon members will get some exclusive/early-access content this month, so please consider supporting me at patreon.com/marklinfoster.

With that out of the way….

I broke 55k words in April (55,342 to be precise), putting a dent in Accidental Monarch (the second book in the Taledin series) but mostly on a br...

Easter Miracle and the writing landscape after it

Here’s where I hope I got the timing right. [Crossposted to Patreon too.]

Easter Miracle, the first seasonal epilogue to the Mendocino Series, is live on Amazon now. It’s 99 cents to buy, or free to read with your Kindle Unlimited subscription.

If you haven’t read the series, this story won’t be as coherent. So to help you get started, Tracey Rose: An unexpected visitor is on a countdown sale on Amazon with about 2 1/2 days left at 99 cents, then 3 1/2 days at 1.99. Or, you know, free with...

More to Mendocino?

With some inspiration from Leon West on the Romance For Men Discord, particularly “The Fox Who Came For Christmas,” I had some thoughts for holiday-based shorts for some of my recurring characters.

I didn’t want to pause anyone’s storyline, but with the Mendocino Series being mostly wrapped up, it seemed like a perfect place to plant my first two holiday shorts. The eagle-eyed among you may have picked up on the date Renee Davis was focused on at the end of Going Home. So that’s where the...

The Road Home is live now on Amazon

Ray and Donna got serious after a long platonic friendship, but it might have been too serious for Donna. Ray gave her some space, heading back to the midwest to deal with some things at his old house for a couple of months.

They both forgot to let April, Donna’s 20-year-old daughter, know what was going on, and she took it more seriously than either would have expected. A random text and a phone call later, Ray knew he had to go home… to Donna and to April.

When he got into his car for ...
