Originally from Glasgow, Pamela studied English at Oxford University. After working in London, she moved to Orkney, where she has lived ever since, working as a freelance writer and editor amongst other jobs, including care worker, books editor for The Orcadian, and currently as arts officer for the local council. In 2007 she was awarded the first George Mackay Brown Writing Fellowship in Orkney, and later became chair of the organization, which runs the Orkney Book Festival.
