J.D. Goff was Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and grew up in Colorado. An avid outdoors man, he spends a lot of time camping and working with the Boy Scouts.

An inattentive and frequently truant student, nonetheless, he was and is an avid reader. Even as a boy, setting off to school with a book in hand invariably meant he would stop at a park along the way and spend the day immersed in the worlds of Jack London, Isaac Asimov and Robert Heinlein, to name a few.

It was rare when he made it to the classroom. Nor was his reading limited to fiction. At an early age, he fell in love with the works of Shakespeare and Poe, and read books on physics, history, language, and philosophy. J.D.’s love of learning has never stopped. A bit of autodidact, he

It doesn't have to be anything good, or even relevant to what you're working on. Writing is like starting your car when it's cold. It runs rough at first, but the longer you keep it running the smoother it gets until it's firing on all cylinders. Writing does the same thing. It may be garbage at first, but keep at it, and eventually something comes out of all the work. (less)

Reading is the most important thing we can do with our minds, in my opinion. It opens the doors to everything else, and if I can get one person excited about reading, that is what makes it all worthwhile. When a fan tells me that I got them into reading, it's the best feeling in the world!(less)

Sculpting Mountains

I sculpt mountains, and dig the basins of oceans, and I ever so gently set the stars in their heavenly constellations. I form worlds that exist nowhere but in my own imagination. And as enjoyable as creating worlds out of the strange, sometimes bizarre, and occasional darkness of that thing I call a brain, seeing others react to my creations is even better. The best praise a writer can hear is, "I
