How do you deal with writer’s block?

For longer projects, I might have to actually take a couple of days away from it and do the "Artist's Way" thing and take myself on an artist date. That happened on my last novel. I knew how it needed to end, but I didn't know how to write from the point I was at to that end point. I actually thought I'd have to shelf the book.

Fortunately, I'm an experienced writer, so after the pouty, feel-sorry-for-myself part passed, I could see the manuscript with free eyes. It must have worked. Ten days later, I finished it.

I guess it boils down to that. Take yourself on artist's dates, meaning feed the muse, and take some time off. However, make sure your time off isn't permanent. (less)
