James Bailey worked for the Durham Bulls for three seasons, from 1990-92. He later spent six years covering minor league baseball for Baseball America magazine. He reviews books for Baseball America, and is an annual contributor to Lindy’s Fantasy Baseball magazine. He lives in Rochester, N.Y., with his wife Jill and son Grant.

That doesn’t really tell the whole story, though, does it? If you took the trouble to come to this page, maybe you want to know more. (Maybe you don’t, in which case, feel free to keep on moving.) Here goes …

I grew up in Seattle, spent nearly 10 years in North Carolina, and have lived in Rochester, N.Y., sin

I've been working on another book in the meantime, but to be honest, Jason was more fun to write and I look forward to getting back to his messed-up family again. In the meantime, please help spread the word. I had more fun writing the JVO books than anything else I've written, but to this point they haven't found as large an audience as I had hoped they would.(less)

I do some of my most productive thinking while doing mundane tasks like washing the dishes or mowing the lawn. My mind is churning away subconsciously on whatever scene or character I'm struggling with, and if I just let it work without stressing over the details they seem to work themselves out and come to me.(less)

Who's monkeying with my marketing campaign?

As an indie author, one thing they always tell you is you need a mailing list. Marketing 101, get people to sign up and you can reach them directly with news of new releases, sales, special events, book signings, network television appearances and whatnot. And it makes total sense. Up to the point where most people will never sign up.

I don't get many mailing list subscribers. Subtract relatives, a

James Douglas wrote: "I like the title, The Greatest Show on Dirt."

Thanks. It comes from a slogan on a sign at the old ballpark. Not unique to Durham, but it was in use there at the time my book is set.
