N.A. (Nick) Betts is a Canadian author of fantasy and horror, with a love for timeless storytelling. A veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces, his fantasy focuses on telling stories of good versus evil; drawing inspiration from Tolkien and other classic works of the genre. For horror, he has a love of cosmic stories centered on psychological dread. Through these mediums, he explores themes of physical perseverance and mental resilience.

When he's not busy creating new worlds or nightmares, Nick can be found watching the same movies he’s seen a thousand times, diving into stories of the unexplained, or relaxing with some good jazz. He lives just outside Edmonton, Alberta, with his wife, Kathleen, and their cats: Bandit, Carter, and Addley

It's not God as we perceive them to be, but something had to create God, something had to set the conditions to initiate the big bang to happen. Something has not been created from nothing, and ultimately, life's biggest mystery lies at Point Zero (let's call it that). (less)

I write mostly between 6-7am on weekdays, and usually 6-10am on weekends (even into the afternoon sometimes). The only curse is having to leave it for my day job LOL!

Unless, of course, you mean what I produce in my writing - then, that's a whole other story. It's never the routine, it's just the craziness that's inside my head haha.(less)

FRIDAY NIGHT POETRY (March 7th, 2025)

I wrote this one for my life's battle with depression, the need to escape it, and find a place I belong.

I hope you enjoy it! (yes, I'm okay). It's about my dream of finding myself in the wild, and retiring into the Pacific Northwest

MY LASTING PEACE by N.A. Betts

Someday I will find,
The place that is kind,
for so long have I wanted to run.
Where I can break free,
Of the pain within me,

More of N.A.'s books…
“My journey has only begun and if, in the end, I should fail then I have failed admirably. For even in my failure I had the courage to do what other's did not.”
Alira Verbrandt (N.A. Betts)

“You found yourself looking to the future. As the Duke, it's your responsibility to keep this city's best interests at heart. Zahra followed another path, a militaristic one, and ensures the safety of our present. Alira hasn't yet found her place, and - I think - somewhere in the old records of the past, she's searching for herself.”
Avery Gelrain (N.A. Betts)

J.R.R. Tolkien
“It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to.”
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings

Kate DiCamillo
“Stories are light. Light is precious in a world so dark. Begin at the beginning. Tell Gregory a story. Make some light.”
Kate DiCamillo, The Tale of Despereaux
