“From "Irena's Children, Young Reader's Edition" by Mary Cronk Farrell: I am delighted and honored to bring her story to life in this edition for young readers. Irene's choice of lifesaving resistance to the power and evil of Naziism proves to me that we humans have great potential to put aside self-interest, to rise above hatred and fear, and to act with compassion...Some parts of the story are so terrible I don't want to write them, and they might be sad and painful for you to read. But if we don't know about the Nazis' brutality, we can't begin to understand Irena's bravery.”

“I keep thinking about this river somewhere, with the water moving really fast. And these two people in the water, trying to hold onto each other, holding on as hard as they can, but in the end it's just too much. The current's too strong. They've got to let go, drift apart. That's how it is with us. It's a shame, Kath, because we've loved each other all our lives. But in the end, we can't stay together forever.”

“I've made a discovery, and it's that grief isn't like sadness at all. Sadness is only something that's part of you. Grief becomes you, it wraps you up and changes you and makes everything--every little thing--different than it was before. I remember the me before we got the telegram saying he was gone, but it's like I'm remembering someone else. It feels like an earthquake has gone through me...”

C.J. HeckHello Mary,
It's such a pleasure having you as a friend. Thank you and best wishes!
My warmest regards,
CJ
Thanks for inviting me to be your friend. Hope to see some of your book recommendations on NFforKids.

Hi Matt,I noticed you have read:
The Battle of Lake Erie (North Star Book)
by F. van Wyck Mason
I was told it was a book for children published in 1960.
Do you remember much about it?
I am a children's author writing a book on this topic and trying to find out what other books have been written prior to this. I have only been able to find this one written specifically for children, though at 180-pages, I'm assuming it is for older children. I have not seen the book myself.
Thank you.
Mary
