Michelle Young is an award-winning journalist, author, and professor whose writing and photography has appeared in The Wall Street Journal, The Guardian, Hyperallergic, The Forward, and Narratively. She is a graduate of Harvard College in the History of Art and Architecture and holds a master’s degree from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, where she is a Professor of Architecture. She is the founder of the publication Untapped New York. She divides her time between New York City and Paris.

Michelle Young I discovered Rose Valland while reading the book Göring's Man in Paris, by Jonathan Petropoulos, in early 2021. Every time Rose appeared on the page, …moreI discovered Rose Valland while reading the book Göring's Man in Paris, by Jonathan Petropoulos, in early 2021. Every time Rose appeared on the page, she popped! For many years I only read non-fiction books about female spies (A Woman of No Importance, Madame Fourcade's Secret War) and I was shocked I had not heard of her and that there had not been a narrative non-fiction book dedicated just to her. Thus began my quest, which began with showing up in Rose's home town in France to see what I could discover and track down. (less)
