I graduated from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, and practiced in Chicago for over 20 years. I have been in Tampa for a couple of years and it is where I now practice.

I became interested in writing a book, because I kept seeing people come in for anxiety or depression, who really had the issues of shame and perfectionism that were never addressed. I felt that the label one receives would obscure the TYPE of person one was, and I saw how people did better having their unique and whole personalities seen and heard. The reason I wrote this book is that I wanted to reach more people than I could in private therapy who have issues of shame, perfectionism, control, etc. So many people have these issues and they are often the basis for anxiety, depression and much human suffering in general. So for me the best thing about having written a book is the people who have written to me with email letting me know it has helped them, and that people who have not had their issues addressed are finding relief in a new way. Many people in reviews have also shared, and said they have been helped a great deal. I wrote this to help people, and seeing that this is happening, for me, is the best thing of having written a book.(less)

The Price of Shame and Perfectionism

As I have gotten older, I find that I must rest more. A friend commented that St. Paul said, "The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak." While St. Paul was talking about temptation and I am not, I related immediately. My mind and spirit have boundless energy, but my body needs to rest sometimes. The rest feels like a disruption that I resent, but need to accept. I do so, but not graciously. In Read more of this blog post »

“To really know who you are, your core self, you need to know who you are pretending to be and who you are not, and the way to heal is the same way to grow in awareness.”
