Old pictures show the tops of buildings in neat little rows with water everywhere else. The only way to travel in town after the flood was by boat. Many people fled to the foothills and came back when the water receded, but many stayed in town in the top floors of buildings. Sacramento became the Venice of the West.

California history is a testament to the human will to overcome and prosper. I hope that Gold Rush Deluge shows the courage of those pioneer men and women as it entertains the reader with its romance and suspense.(less)
