Tracey grew up in New York, Connecticut, and Florida, none of which was her fault. With one parent an alcoholic and the other a manic depressive, let’s say her childhood was a little . . . chaotic. The magical places books took her to—like Oz and Wonderland and Middle Earth—were havens she could escape to when the chaos got to be too much. She became a lifelong devotee of roleplaying games like Dungeons & Dragons in high school for similar reasons, not just because elves rule and orcs drool. (But seriously, elves are the best.)
