The romantic tension between the two of them--not liking each other and misunderstanding each other, but being drawn inexorably toward each other the whole time--is just literary perfection. I won't spoil the end of the novel for those poor souls who haven't had the joy of reading it yet, but the moment in the story where you learn what's really going on makes for the absolute best resolution of romantic tension EVER. This is why I chose the name "Darcy" for my first protagonist in my own novels. (less)

Don't wait around for lightning to strike; take action to make yourself sit down and do it. If you consider yourself "aspiring," evaluate why that is. Do you actual want to write, or do you just enjoy the idea of it? There are a lot of people out there who enjoy the idea of it who don't have a real writing bone in their bodies. I say if you are meant to be a writer, you have to sit down and write. And if you don't know where or how to begin, research the craft, get inspiration from your favorite authors, and ask trusted people to hold you accountable. On top of my writing career, I teach full time, am married and raising three (about to be four) small children, manage my household, and maintain a speaking and touring schedule. If I can find time to write, anybody can! MAKE your dream a reality, don't just sit around waiting for it to drop into your lap. (less)

Blog Migration...

Just a quick post to let y'all know that my blog is migrating to my website. I've had this blogger site up for a loooong time as my official blog, and it's served me well, but I've also been operating my www.kbhoyle.com website for several years, and it's silly to continue to manage both. I will keep this site up and active, so all posts will remain archived and available, but all new posts from t Read more of this blog post »

Swimming with Dolphins by Suzanne Purvis
"I was absolutely enchanted by this novel-in-verse. As someone who actively avoids poetry, I was moved in a way that I was not expecting. I was surprised but also appreciative of the many hard topics that were sensitively addressed. Grace's simple but" Read more of this review »

Piranesi by Susanna Clarke
"Oh, I loved this. I put off reading it for years, not because I didn’t want to, but because it had a lot of expectations attached to it (though I knew almost nothing about the story).

“Most boys her age spent half their free time playing video games, but Tellius spent all of his in adult pursuits like fighting, managing, ruling, and delegating, and it showed. If she’d begun to think he was attractive last year, she now wondered how she ever could have found him anything but attractive. As she took in his square jaw, straight aristocratic nose, intense green-flecked eyes, and that ever-present smattering of freckles, Darcy felt her ears grow warm. She looked down at the flagstones.
Darcey Pennington”
K.B. Hoyle, The Enchanted

“There is always hope,” she said. “Just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean it’s not there.”
K.B. Hoyle, The Bone Whistle

“True love is born of time and trials, and it is rarely caught up in feelings.”
K. B. Hoyle, The Enchanted

“I get a warm feeling among my books.”
