A very enjoyable book. There were some differences between this and the movie that made it a fun read, with some bits that were unexpected. And as much as I liked this book, this is one of those rare cases where the movie is actually better.

I loved the gothic horror build up to this story. It starts strong and builds a high creepy terror. The problem is, it doesn't deliver at the end. It went from a 10 start to a ho hum 4 or 5 finish. Over all I did enjoy it more than not, just hoped fo ...more

“There is a theory which states that if ever anyone discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable.

There is another theory which states that this has already happened.”
Douglas Adams, The Restaurant at the End of the Universe

Douglas Adams
“It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged imagination.”
Douglas Adams, The Restaurant at the End of the Universe

J.R.R. Tolkien
“Do you wish me a good morning, or mean that it is a good morning whether I want it or not; or that you feel good this morning; or that it is a morning to be good on?”
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit, or There and Back Again

J.R.R. Tolkien
“Trolls simply detest the very sight of dwarves (uncooked).”
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit, or There and Back Again

Khaled Hosseini
“But better to get hurt by the truth than comforted with a lie.”
Khaled Hosseini
