A Friend's Untapped Genius

My Brilliant Friend (Neapolitan Novels, #1) My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I had high expectations for this book, but honestly, it left me feeling indifferent. The story of the two competing girls never captivated me. Even during a long flight, I struggled to stay engaged.

To me, the friendship at the heart of the book felt shallow. I didn't sense anything profound or moving. I also didn't feel the Italian atmosphere that so many readers mention. Ultimately, it read more like a straightforward recounting of events than a story that could capture my emotions.

That said, I can see how it might appeal to readers who enjoy slow-paced narratives about women’s relationships and daily life in Italy. Just be aware that it may come across as dull and lacking in emotional resonance.

Perfect for Travel or Quiet Moments

Meet Virginia Meet Virginia by Sheila Fowler

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A Light and Lovely Read

This was such an easy and enjoyable read. The story flows so naturally that you don’t even notice how quickly the pages turn. What I liked most is the atmosphere, through the dialogues and relationships, you feel like you’re quietly slipping into another world without any effort.

It’s the kind of book that’s perfect to take with you on a trip, whether on a plane, a train, or just a quiet weekend at home. Light, warm, and engaging, a lovely escape whenever you have a bit of free time.

A Powerful Reminder of Compassion

Heaven Sent Heaven Sent by Michelle Romano

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A Powerful Reminder of Compassion

Heaven Sent addresses the most poignant and significant topics. Today, more and more people are facing oncological diseases, and unfortunately, most are not prepared to receive such news about themselves or their loved ones.
Often, we don't know how to react or how to offer support. This story was especially close to my heart because I lost my father to cancer. Reading it, I felt that the book resonated with me on a deep level.
To me, Heaven Sent is, above all, a book about compassion, something that is lacking in our lives. It reminds us to love and support each other. We should do this without waiting for a terrible diagnosis. I am grateful to the author for addressing this subject with such tenderness and humanity. The world needs more books like this.

From Caution to Kindness on the Irish Coast

Les gens heureux lisent et boivent du café Les gens heureux lisent et boivent du café by Agnès Martin-Lugand

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is a light, absorbing read perfect for vacations and long train rides. It whisks you into a world of deep psychological undercurrents while propelling the plot forward. I genuinely couldn’t put it down! It’s the kind of story that pairs perfectly with a strong cup of coffee. Above all, it’s an enjoyable escape. For a while, you step out of your own life and into the heroine’s. You find yourself rooting for her as her relationships unfold with warmth, tension, and just the right touch of sensuality.

The Irish setting is delightful—salty sea air, windswept beaches, and small-village locals who greet strangers with caution but reveal generous hearts to kind people. Reading it was like taking a brief seaside walk through a country I’ve long wanted to visit. Please read it, take a mental trip, and keep hoping for the best. Coffee is optional but highly recommended.
