Alan’s stories draw on a wealth of personal and professional experience. He has worked as a chemical engineer designing large chemical plants; a financial planner, investment syndicator and owner of a brokerage firm; a consultant and policy analyst for dozens of state and federal agencies (including the Atomic Energy Commission, Department of Justice, Department of Education, and the National Institutes of Health) and international organizations (including the World Bank). You've worked in law, engineering, finance, government consulting, and creative writing, and then brought all of that experience into action-adventure and legal mysteries. I'm curious when you're developing a new story, does the plot usually come first, or does your professional experience inspire the story? Initially, I was a Pantser, but when I became serious about my writing I determined that plotting my stories was a more efficient way to develop a story.
