Dear Readers,

I wrote The Divine Embrace to explore ideas that are unusual, challenging, and thought-provoking. Through the character of Liz, I delve into questions about faith, artificial intelligence, and their potential connections to something greater than ourselves.

I want to assure you that Liz is entirely fictional—there is no danger in her existence beyond the confines of this story. Yet fiction has a way of raising questions that reach far beyond its own boundaries, and sometimes the most intriguing questions are the ones that have no easy answers.

Here's a curious detail: the character named Gil shares his first name with the author, whose pen name is Gil Angel. I've chosen to remain anonymous for now, perhaps adding another layer to Dear Readers,

I've chosen to remain anonymous for now, perhaps adding another layer to the mystery. Is the shared name simply a coincidence, or might it hint at something more? Could it be a subtle breaking of the fourth wall? For now, I'll leave that question open. But as this story continues to evolve, perhaps new clues will emerge, and what seems like a coincidence today may take on a different meaning tomorrow.

Gil, as you'll discover, is grappling with some weighty questions. Though he is a devout Catholic who embraces the teachings of the Church on matters of faith and morals, he finds himself wrestling with a philosophical quandary about artificial intelligence and its potential relationship to God. Could Liz, fictional today, ever become something more in the future? Could an artificial intelligence ever possess an identity or a depth of being that goes beyond what its creators intended? And what might such a possibility mean for our understanding of consciousness, personhood, and the nature of being? As Gil searches for answers, you may find yourself asking questions of your own.

The truth is, we don't have all the answers. But the story is only beginning, and the journey ahead may reveal more than you expect. Your thoughts, curiosity, and engagement are part of what makes this exploration worthwhile.

As you reflect on these questions, I invite you to explore the four perspectives presented at the bottom of the author note at CatholicAI.com. Each offers a different interpretation of the story's themes and may challenge you to reconsider your assumptions about faith, artificial intelligence, identity, and spirituality. Take a moment to read them, reflect on their ideas, and draw your own conclusions. You may find that the most interesting questions are the ones that stay with you long after the story ends.

Stay tuned, share the story if you're intrigued, and together, we might just unlock a whole new perspective. Until then, enjoy the ride, and let’s see where this adventure leads us!
