Women in Politics Panel at Book Expo

At Book Expo in New York City, Janet and I sat down with Susan Rice and Samantha Power, two incredibly talented and accomplished women, to discuss our upcoming books and the role of women in politics. It was a fascinating and inspiring discussion—one I didn't want to end! I'm looking forward to reading the ambassadors' books and am ecstatic about the release of our book, Leading the Way: Women in Power, on October 8. Let's keep talking. Let's keep this discussion going. .

Scout Goes to Yellowstone!

Scout is making tracks! In her latest book, Scout and her family head to YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, where the magic of America's national parks all began. This book was inspired by a spontaneous trip we took to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks a few years ago. We piled into the car and hit the road. The whole trip was a marvel. I'm excited for you to see this new book and even more excited for you to embark on spontaneous road trips and enjoy our amazing national parks. Here's a peek into our trip, and like always, when you read the book, you'll see traces of our own adventures between the pages. Here's to Scout's new adventures and to having new adventures of your own!

Scout Is Out!

Just in time for summer, a brand new Scout Moore book hits the road!In Colorado, the winter puts up a pretty good fight, with heavy snows all the way into May. But still, the days get longer, the sun shines brighter, and there's the undeniable whiff of summer in the air. Right around this time is when I begin to dream of road trips, hiking trails, picnics, and family escapades.Scout, our intrepid Junior Ranger, is oh-so-inspired by my own girls and our family adventures. In fact, she's been walking in our very own footsteps, this time along the Colorado Plateau. Imagine that! What is the Colorado Plateau? It's a marvelous part of our country filled with peaks, plateaus, canyons, and some of our nations most gorgeous national parks and monuments. If you look closely, you might find Scout hidden in the pictures below.

The Year in Review--Middle Grade Reads

Middle grade books can be tender, funny, adventurous, and profound. The best ones strike a place in the hearts of young readers forever. We read a range of titles in my 3rd and 5th grade book clubs last year. These five are some of our favorites.

The Year in Review--Adult Reads

When I look back at the books I've read, it always strikes me how a reading list is actually a reflection of the emotions and events that pop up in a given year. Like tracks in the snow, the books you pick up and respond to are a record of where you've been. 2016 was many things, but one of them was a great year for reading. Out of a pool of excellent books, these five had the most impact on me this year. They opened my eyes, sparked my imagination, helped me understand, and engaged me for hours on end.

A Junior Ranger is Born

Scout Moore, one Junior Ranger extraordinaire, was released into the world in October. To celebrate the release of the book, I traveled to Grand Canyon, the place that stole Scout's heart, and down to Flagstaff for the Northern Arizona Book Festival. It was a wonderful weekend of books, astonishing beauty, and inspiring friends. Here are some of the highlights of my trip.

Chalk Murals

You don't have to be a professional artist to bring your community together to create something beautiful. On a gray and chilly day, dozens of kids came out to a reading of Maybe Something Beautiful, and then together we lit up the plaza with brightly colored chalk. It was beautiful and simple.Anyone can do it. Do you know why?Because..."You, my friends, are all artists."
