DISCOVER HONEY’S AMAZING BEE-HEALTHY POWERS
Did you know? . . .

Eating honey, Mother Nature’s ancient medicine, can still work its healing magic and help lower the risk of disease—adding quality and years to your life—at any age!

The buzz: Consumers are seeking healthy alternatives to refined sugar due to concerns about obesity, diabetes, and heart disease, the #1 killer.

Yes! Raw, unprocessed honey is more popular than ever before and is touted a “superfood” as it replaces unhealthy table sugar and artificial sweeteners—helping to combat the skyrocketing rise in chronic ailments and life-threatening diseases.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, beekeepers experienced a surge in demand for the disease-fighting, antioxidant-rich “apocalyptic food” widely believed to boost immune health.

Increasing threats to honeybees’ survival may harm the planet’s nourishing superfoods that you love to eat—such as fruits and nuts—that the honeybee pollinates.

Honey, known as Mother Nature’s “nectar of the gods,” is an ancient remedy noted in the Bible and used for centuries to quell a cough, soothe a sore throat, energize you, and even calm frazzled nerves due to stressors such as post-COVID-19 virus variants and climate change health effects.

Enjoy gripping and adventurous survival stories about honeybees and humans as well as fascinating reasons why the popularity of honey is soaring, Manuka honey medicinal uses are surging, and herbal flavored varietals are trending. You’ll also love new heart-healthy recipes with honey twists such as Whipped Ricotta Toast with Lemon Thyme Honey, Hot Honey Glazed Turkey Loaf, and Turmeric Honey Immunity Booster, plus buzzworthy home cures thanks to honey’s gifts (including super “bee foods” like propolis and royal jelly) from the hive!

“This eye-opening book provides you with a delicious truth of the traditional Mediterranean diet. Honey is a sumptuous route to optimal health.”—Dr. Will Clower, author of The French Don’t Diet Plan

HONEY Rx FOR HEALTHY HOLIDAYS

BEE-UTIFULLY CALMING:UNVEIL HONEYS FOR THE HOLIDAYS

By Cal Orey, M.A.

While my original “bible on honey” was penned fifteen yearsago at Tahoe, a newly revised second edition of the #1 hit, is comingin 2026! My current love of lavender honey for the holidays is a testament toits enduring appeal. Lavender honey is a monofloral honey produced by bees thatforage on lavender blossoms, making it a favorite among me and otherconnoisseurs. So, I ordered a jar of quality lavender honey (it’s smooth, creamy, and rich with a citrusy and woodsy flavor). But that's not all...

Why Honey from the Hive Makes a Great Gift

As noted, the delicate floral notes with a sweet finish and tang for me make ita gourmet item that's a cut above regular honey. It's a culinary adventure in ajar! It can be drizzled over yogurt, oatmeal, or toast, used in baking, pairedwith cheeses, or even added to cocktails for a sophisticated twist. Theantioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and calming properties make it a gift that'sboth delicious and good for the mind, body, and spirit.
The honey itself often has a golden hue, and when packaged nicely, it makes fora super attractive gift. A real treat for the holidays, a little jar of calm inthe chaos!

Here are 5 holiday theme and healthy infused raw honeys youcan make for a festive touch during the Christmas season.

1.      CinnamonHoney: Infuse raw honey with cinnamon sticks. Cinnamon is known for itsanti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It pairs wonderfully withapple dishes, oatmeal, or warm teas and coffees.

Ginger Honey: Infuse raw honey with fresh ginger slices. Ginger honey is excellent for soothing sore throats and boosting immunity, making it ideal for fall/winter ailments. Serve in hot tea or over roasted root vegetables.

Orange Zest & Clove Honey: Infuse raw honey with orange zest and whole cloves. This combo evokes classic holiday aromas and flavors. Orange zest provides vitamin C, and cloves offer antioxidants Great for glazes on fish or poultry.

Rosemary Honey: Infuse raw honey with fresh rosemary sprigs. Rosemary has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits. Its earthy, piney flavor complements savory dishes like roasted lamb or chicken, and can also be surprisingly good in herbal teas.

Vanilla Bean Honey: Infuse raw honey with a split vanilla bean. Vanilla adds a rich, comforting sweetness without being overpowering. Vanilla beans contain antioxidants. This is a luxurious addition to coffee, yogurt, or as a drizzle over fruit tarts.

These infused honeys offer unique flavors and healthbenefits, making them excellent gifts—for you/yours—or additions to holidaymeals.

Is Honey the New Golden Goddess of Good Health?

Praised for its amazing ability to heal the body, the ancient “nectar of the gods” may just be a 21st century healing miracle — the closest thing we have to a “cure-all” for dozens of ailments from heart disease and heartburn to insomnia, low libido, fatigue, cough and cold, headaches, and more.

If you’re a weight loss warrior, this gooey golden syrup can even help flatten your belly and whittle your waist!

Surprisingly, 50% of Americans have this nourishing nectar in their kitchen cupboard. Chances are, you do, too, but you haven’t even begun to tap into its healing powers. More than a sweetener for tea and toast, this ancient superfood has been scientifically shown to help:

Nature’s honey. Yes — the same honey that comes from a flower’s nectar consumed by the honeybee.

A biblical favorite, honey was used as far back as 5,000 years ago by Egyptian physicians and in traditional Chinese medicine. It was so prized that Egyptian pharaohs were buried with jars of this golden syrup to sustain them in the afterlife.

In ancient Greece and Rome, the nectar of the gods was revered for its ability to calm coughing, heal wounds, rid the body of lice, and stop earaches, as well as heal hemorrhoids. Later, North American colonists would use honey not just for medicinal purposes, but to prepare food, preserve fruit, and even make glue!

Today we know that honey is dripping in disease-fighting antioxidants — and it naturally contains a built-in antiseptic that acts as a gentle healer and powerful bacteria-fighter. This golden goddess of good health is used for healing and cooking as well as in cosmetics, beauty treatments, soaps, and candles.

Holiday Serenity in the Sierras

By Cal Orey

Holiday goodies are making the rounds in the sierras. I see it. I smell it. I feel it. I taste it. And Christmas is coming, another snow dusting will arrive maybe. Cookies, cakes, pies, and breads—all kinds—are circulating in homes, stores, parties, and businesses.

On the south shore, soon red, blue, green, and white Christmas lights will dot houses and stores. The excitement takes me back to childhood when I was a kid (who still believed in Santa Claus) in the suburbs of San Jose, California before it was a high-tech, gentrified big city.
When I was nine, my father brought home a flocked white tree, big. We’d decorate it with blue and silver bulbs, colored lights, and candy canes. My mother, the baker, would be busy making Chocolate Pinwheels and Bourbon Balls. Parties at our house were plentiful. Wrapped packages were piled under the Christmas tree. On Christmas Eve, we could unwrap one gift; we sipped egg nog, and left cookies and a mug of milk for Santa. Early in the morning, my two siblings and I gather around the tree and give each other presents. Then, it was off to church. And home, a magnificent dinner awaited: Ham, sweet potatoes, greens, rolls, and pecan pie.

Today, things have changed. In the sierra, I reside with my two furry kids. I may or may not do a tree (I thought about it), nor will I shop. (Well, I did buy a set of dishes, a goose down comforter, and clothes for our upcoming winter.) So, here’s a reimagined semi-homemade holiday Apple Pie that appeases my taste buds—and warms me up.
Holiday Apple Pie

5 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, sliced thin

½ cup premium fresh cranberries, chopped

2 tablespoons European style butter, cold, cubed

2 tablespoons honey

½ cup brown sugar

½ teaspoon cinnamon

½ teaspoon nutmeg

1 teaspoon orange rind (optional)

1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice (optional)

2 store-bought premium pie crusts (or homemade; recipes in The Healing Powers of

Olive Oil book) 4 tablespoons half-and-half (1/2 for apple mixture; ½ for crust)

2 tablespoons each, raw sugar and cinnamon (for crust)

In a large bowl, combine sliced apples, cranberries, butter, sugar, spices, and citrus if preferred. Place in one pie crust. Put other pie crust on top. Flute edges with thumb to give it a homemade, imperfect rustic look. (If pieces break, use warm water to mend.) Brush top with half-and-half. Sprinkle sugar-cinnamon mixture. Cover with foil (so edges of pie crust don’t burn.) Bake at 375 degrees for 15 minutes, then bake for another 45 minutes. Cool for one hour before cutting. Sprinkle top with chopped walnuts and serve with a piece of melted cheddar cheese.  Serves approximately 10.

This charming pie is rustic and tart pie and doesn’t look like a cookie cutter one packaged one in the store. It’s good both warm or cold. And, the raw sugar gives it a super crunch.  While you can overindulge in cookies and candies, a slice of fresh fruit pie paired with hot herbal tea or gourmet coffee, will give you a nice holiday fix and has some health perks, too. Whether you’re alone or with friends and family, this Christmas Apple Pie paired with coffee or tea and honey will feed your sweet tooth, fill you up, not out and boost your spirit.

Motto: Holiday blessings come in all ways, shapes and sizes. Sometimes, tradition is fun and other times it’s exciting to follow your heart and soul while dancing on your own path.

Granola Girl's Healing Powers Series...

Cal OreyPreviousNext

Cal Orey, M.A. is an author and non-fiction novelist. Her books include the Healing Powers Series (Vinegar, Olive Oil, Chocolate, Honey, Coffee, Tea, Superfoods, Essential Oils, Herbs and Spices) published by Kensington. (The collection has been featured by the Good Cook Book Club.) Orey’s new book is Soulmates with Paws.

Granola Girl’s Healing Powers Series: A Treasure Chest of Goodness

Are there any classic novels that you only recently read for the first time?

Well, it’s not a “classic” but it is a bestseller and I finally read it. I savored the short and oh so sweet, tuesdays with Morrie. As a ghostwriter I was told by the client that this is the kind of vibe he wanted for the non-fiction novel I wrote for him.

The end is a bittersweet one. I was promised co-author credit. The client fibbed and my name is not on the book. I did pen The Healing Powers of Tea, and tea plays a big role in his book. So in my heart I know it’s my baby.

You’re organizing a party. Which two authors, dead or alive, do you invite?

I would love to host John Steinbeck. He input his emotion into his work. And, of course, Travels with Charley is one of my favorites books. When I was in my early twenties, I left Northern California and hitched and hiked with my dog in search of America. Steinbeck was my mentor, my teacher, my hero.

Next up for tea and scones, would be Stephen King. I would love to hear him tell a spooky tale. One late winter, I drove from Lake Tahoe to Reno for a book signing. He was there a week prior. It was a hard act to follow. But I got a call from the manager a day before my event. She said, “I don’t know how to tell you this but all of your books sold out.” So, I took my beloved Brittany and we ended up bringing more books to the bookstore.

Who are your favorite writers? Are there any who aren’t as widely known as they should be, whom you’d recommend in particular?

The trio of authors I chose for my oral exams in grad school are still my favorite writers. So, it’s John Steinbeck, Edward Albee (I was going to be a playwright), and George Elliot who had a sensitive husband who trashed her bad reviews. (My professors did approve of the master. However, they said they hoped I became an author—not a literature teacher.)

What do you read when you’re working on a book? And what kind of reading do you avoid while writing?

I read books and articles related to my chosen topic. I make a point of it to choose a different angle, style, and turn the subject matter upside down—this way it’s all mine. I stay clear of novels because it’s too distracting and takes me out of the zone.

What moves you most in a work of literature?

When the author reveals the inner self and isn’t timid to share feelings—that is what makes me laugh or cry.

What genres do you especially enjoy reading?

My favorite genres include Sci-Fi, Romance, and Adventure.

What book are you planning to read next?

I’m too busy writing. I will not be reading but writing Book 2: Soulmates with Paws: A Collection of Tales & Tails.

What books and authors have impacted your writing career?

Anne Rice taught a class at San Francisco State University—and she was amazingly real. Rice told us when we write we should pretend to disrobe and share ourselves without inhibitions. And that’s just what I do.

Read Book Review

Although the statistics for heart disease vary, it can be justly concluded to be the most awful killer in our society.  Often sneaking up on people unsuspectedly and killing instantly in the form of a heart attack, this unforgiving disease needs to be brought to light – and lessons of survivors have to be shared.  This is the underlying theme in the latest of award-winning and prolific author Cal Orey’s books titled, Courage with Paws – The Heart of a Siamese Cat.

Cal Orey tells this story vicariously through the eyes of her Siamese-mix Cat, given the most royal name of Sir Whiskers McPurrington.  Living in the high country of Lake Tahoe, one sunny afternoon Sir Whiskers felt odd – short of breath – and his heart began racing.  “Rushed to the animal hospital things got serious quickly,” the narration explained.  The story goes into an NDE, near-death-experience, telling how Dr. Furryheart saved Sir Whiskers.  The doctor recommended surgery saying, “Time is running out, Mr. Whiskers. Your heart is very, very weak.”  But “No” said Sir Whiskers, relying on his sixth sense cat-intuition to avoid further risks.

Sir Whiskers was told of a wizardly lion named Professor Pawsworth at BIG UNIVERSITY who performed miracles in medicine. “I can do tricks, A ‘puff-up magic’ gentle heart helper,” Professor Pawsworth roared, “using small Balloons to open up blocked areas in the heart.” I cried, “Yes, fix!”

This of course, is referring to an angioplasty, a minimally invasive procedure to widen narrowed arteries.  Once completed, Sir Whiskers McPurrington regained his strength over time, and the book ends with a positive feline feeling of having faced fear and overcoming it with friendship and compassion during the ordeal with his best friend, Barkley, an Australian shepherd, enabling him to continue creating art and laughter – “spreading courage with paws far and near.”

Courage with Paws combines many elements showcasing Cal Orey’s finesse of creative writing.  Artfully interleaved with excellent illustrations to highlight the theme of the story, along with photographs bringing in credibility of this being a true story, plus with the icing on the cake of having whimsical character names in the genre of Dr. Seuss, the book congeals into an art form with a stern message; that being to understand heart-health. As children are at risk as well, everyone needs to pay attention to this awful disease, which will only grow as a percentage in our population over the decades ahead.  This book should be recommended reading in all children’s healthcare organizations as well as family libraries to drill in the importance of heart-health.  Remember, not all of us have the cat-like quality of possessing Nine-Lives, so we need to pay attention to the One we have.

Courage with Paws is a must-read for animal lovers and anyone who believes in the profound impact pets can have on our lives. The book offers an uplifting reminder that courage and love are qualities that can transcend species, leaving readers with a renewed appreciation for the animals who touch our hearts in unexpected ways.

Forget Picture-Perfect Holidays! Go with the Flow of Imperfection

By Cal Orey, M.A.

ManyTurkey Days ago, I aimed for the perfect Thanksgiving, but it quickly devolvedinto a culinary catastrophe. The turkey was undercooked, the cornbread dressingbland, and the muffins dry. To top it off, my dog devoured the pumpkin pie, andmy sole guest, an editor from afar, canceled due to a storm. My grand feastended with me binging on Hallmark movies by a fire, a far cry from thecelebratory dinner I envisioned. Thankfully, I’ve since mastered the art ofThanksgiving, and now give thanks that it works!

Hereare my down-to-earth health tips for mind and body, and tribute to the MayoClinic and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

1. Embracethe Tahoe Pace, Not the Race: Instead of rushing from one activity toanother, slow down and seize the day. Tahoe is all about appreciating thenow. Take a walk or drive by the lake, enjoy a quiet cup of joe with a view, orrelax by a fireplace. Say no to overscheduling, and let the natural tranquilityof Tahoe guide your pace.

2. FuelYour Body with Tahoe-Inspired Goodness: While Thanksgiving is known for eatingmore than less, try to balance your meals with fresh, natural whole foods.Fill up, not out. Hydrate with plenty of water, and comforting beverages likeherbal tea after a day of exploring.

3.Prioritize Sleep…Even on the Holiday: The excitement of festivities cansometimes disrupt sleep patterns. However, adequate sleep is vital tocontrol stress and maintaining energy. Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleepeach night. Consider blackout curtains or blinds to ensure a restful night'ssleep, especially if you're in a new environment or your neighborhood is moreactive.

4. Connectwith Nature, Disconnect from Devices: Tahoe provides the perfect backdrop for adigital detox. Take a vacay away from screens and enjoy the naturalbeauty around you. This can reduce mental fatigue and allow for more meaningfulinteractions with loved ones.

5. SetRealistic Expectations, Embrace Imperfect Holiday Bliss: Lose the pressure tohave a "perfect" Thanksgiving. Remember that the true spirit of theholiday is about gratitude and connection, not perfection.

Cold Season is Everywhere! A Cup of Wellness Rx

Boost Your Immune System During Cold Season Tea & Honey Rx

News | Sep 20, 2025

Ah, our “secret season” is cherished by locals for its crisp air, fewer crowds, and a serene atmosphere between the busy and winter months. But the glitch is, cold season is an unwelcome visitor.

Often when September arrives at Tahoe the transition of colder from warmer temperatures can wreak havoc on your body and mind. We stay inside more than in the summertime. Unfortunately, people gather, and viruses can be contagious. Not to forget dust and dander linger in the air and windows are closed. Read on—discover how tea(s) and honey(s)—two superfoods–from your kitchen may be just what the doctor would order to help beat catching a pesky bug.

Colds: During fall months, cold season can visit like an unwanted house guest. And, if you are under stress, a cold or flu can pay you a visit, especially if you’re traveling. If your immune system is under attack, illness can be prevented or the severity lessened with tea. What Tea Rx to Use: Drink one 8-ounce cup of black tea (hot or iced) with or without 1 teaspoon honey two to three times per day while symptoms last. Why You’ll Feel Tea-rrific: Tea researchers believe it’s the compound antigen (a molecule capable of inducing an immune response) in black tea that bolsters the body’s immune system and may help guard against colds. Known for being rich with antioxidants, tea also contains tannins which may help to stave off viruses like a cold.

Coughs: Coping with a cold can be annoying but coughing (either from a cold or allergies) can be pesky and make your throat and chest ache. What Tea Rx to Use: Opt to brew one 12-ounce cup of black or white tea. For an extra throat soother, adding 1 teaspoon of local honey. Why You’ll Feel Tea-rrific: Tackling a cough takes a bit of sleuth work to discover why you are coughing. If allergens are the issue, for instance, it’s time to get an air purifier, vacuum and dust more, and add tea with local honey to your diet repertoire.

Sore Throat: A sore throat is a telltale sign that a cold or allergies (blame it on dander and dust) are looming, so rather than run to the pharmacy for medication every time, why not take an alternative route and turn to tea first? What Tea Rx to Use: Dried oolong leaves combined with rose hips or hibiscus can be a perfect pairing. Put 1 teaspoon of tea leaves and 1 teaspoon of the herbal tea of your choice in 1 cup of hot water. Steep for a few minutes, then strain. Add honey to taste. Why You’ll Feel Tea-rrific: Oolong tea or chamomile may reduce swelling and inflammation, due to flavonoids. Also, local honey boasts anti-inflammatory benefits and contains pollen to help balance allergies.

A Look at 2025 Predictions...Solar Storms, Northern Lights...Came True

2025 Earth Changes Forecast (3 Mercury Retrograde Periods)

Yes, more solar events (solar flares to solar storms) like in 2024 will happen and come with the Northern Lights in unlikely states. But remember, these light shows come with blackouts, communication disruptions, and delays in flights and road travel causing inconvenience to woes depending on the severity of the happening. UPDATE: Northern Lights viewed at Lake Tahoe during early November's Mercury Retrograde!

By Cal Orey

As I predicted for 2024... West Coast Earthquakes, Strange twisters, Southeast Hurricanes and Mega Blackouts to Northern Lights and Northeast Flooding! And now, for 2025 the year of The Snake--look forward to transformation, renewal--some good some bad. Most of all, be prepared mind, body, and spirit.

It’s here! The New Year promises political changes and Earth moves. Looking ahead to 2025, there will be Earth changes and human-caused disasters. Activities such as urbanization, deforestation, and industrial processes will contribute to environment woes and may lead to more frequent natural disasters.

Astrologically speaking, periods such as Mercury Retrograde—there are three this year—come linked with communication disruptions to mega blackouts. Also, events like Full Moons and New Moons can influence human behavior and environmental conditions.

So, the combo of wildfires, increasing earthquakes, potential surprise disasters (such as oil spills to quakes on hidden faults), may create chaos and challenges for the nation. But there is an upside:  environmental management, disaster preparedness, and looking at scientific data can help provide you with peace of mind even though you can’t control Old Man Winter and Mother Nature.

WEATHER WATCH

·       West Coast: The NOAA forecast for the West Coast in 2025 shows a higher change of above-average snowfall in the Sierra Nevada region. Blame it on La Nina (Pacific Ocean cooler temperature anomaly) which triggers more precipitation during winter months. The Farmer’s Almanac supports this outlook, predicting a snowy winter for the West Coast… Caveat: Snowfall forecasts for the winter 2025 suggest that while higher elevations will see above-average snowfall due to La Nina (Pacific Ocean cooler temperature anomaly), lower elevations around Reno-Tahoe are projected to experience below-average precipitation and potentially drier conditions. This controversy arises from warmer temperatures that can lead to more rain and less snow at these altitudes, particularly during critical storm events.

·         South: For the Southern United States, forecasts suggest a mix of normal to slightly above-average temperatures with potential for drought in some regions. The NOAA claims some regions may experience below-average rainfall, with dry spells.

·         Northeast: The Northeast is projected to have a colder-then-average winter with increased odds of snowstorms. Both NOAA and the Farmer’s Almanac show that this region may see snowfall events throughout the winter months.

·         Midwest: In the Midwest, forecasts predict a variable winter with periods of cold and snow and milder weather. The potential for severe weather such as ice storms are noted by both forecasting agencies.

SHOCKING SHAKERS

·       The West Coast was on rock and roll during the latter part of 2024.  In December, an offshore Northern California 7.0 with a tsunami warning happened; a strong and shallow 5.8 temblor hit Yerington, Nevada and was felt in the sierras, Sacramento to the SF Bay Area; and tremors hit Southern California throughout the year.

·       The San Andreas Fault Zone continues to be linked to northern California earthquakes and is overdue for the Big One. A 7.5 or greater is likely to happen in 2025. Regions likely to be the epicenter include Offshore Northern California, San Francisco Bay Area, and Southern California.

·       Northeast quakes despite being smaller magnitudes than the West Coast are often felt more and farther. Expect at least two noteworthy shakers…

·       …And the New Madrid Zone may be hit by a strong jolt with aftershocks that’ll rattle nerves and make international news. Ditto with the Southern states, not excluding Texas or Oklahoma.

HURRICANES, TWISTERS, OH MY!

·       HURRICANES: Superstorms (including blackouts) will happen and in the Gulf States like they did in 2024. While that year Texas and the Carolinas were ground zero, in 2025 Mississippi, Louisiana, and Florida are in the line of destruction.

·       TWISTERS: will come with hurricanes in these regions but also the Midwest and even the West Coast; it got its first tornado alert ever on Friday the 13th, December 2024. On the 14th in the afternoon, Scotts Valley, Northern California was struck by a twister like a disaster film.

·       WILDFIRES: up and down the West Coast will continue to wreak havoc on people, pets, infrastructure, and the environment. Not only do the flames threaten lives but the poor air quality will become more of a reality.  Staying indoors to using air purifiers will become even more common for health’s sake.

ON THE FRINGE

Yes, more solar events (solar flares to solar storms) like in 2024 will happen and come with the Northern Lights in unlikely states. But remember, these light shows come with blackouts, communication disruptions, and delays in flights and road travel causing inconvenience to woes depending on the severity of the happening.

As the United States faces unpredictable political changes and discord, Earth changes will encourage people to work together to survive severe weather and earthmoving events. Political parties will be a moot point (like it is on a small island in Alaska where people band together during shake-ups to maintain shelter and forage food). It will be survival and helping your neighbors first—unifying us to be one. The end results? We will be a happier, healthier and safer nation.

Just Say No to Processed Foods...for the Health of It

Losethe Processed Foods! Trailblazer Food Swaps

By Cal Orey, M.A.

Alright, let's talk grub! Years back, I loved a good shortcut, I recall one morning Igrabbed a sugary cinnamon roll (or two), and coffee latte with whip beforehitting the resort pool for a sweet swim. But sometimes those shortcuts, canlead us down a less-than-healthy path.

TheProcessed Food Puzzle: A Quick Peek: So,what are these yummy "processed foods" we keep hearing about? Thinkof anything that's been altered from its natural state. I’m talking aboutthings with ingredients you can’t pronounce. They're popular because they'reconvenient, cheaper, and made to taste really good, making uswant more.

But here'sthe rub: these foods are often linked to packing on pounds and health woes. Why?Because they're high in calories but low in fiber, and healthy essentialnutrients. The American Heart Association notes the unhealthy effects of highsodium, added sugars, and unhealthy fats, all found in processed foods. So, forgetthose tired old food swaps. try something a little more adventurous.

·      Ditchthe Doughnut, Grab a "Mountain Morning Muffin": Instead of that sugary, processeddoughnut from your go-to spot, imagine a homemade muffin packed with goodness. TheSwap: Homemade muffin. Why it's better: Your homemade muffincan be loaded with whole grains (oats, whole wheat flour), seasonal fruits likeapples or cranberries, nuts for healthy fats, and spices like cinnamon andnutmeg. Less sugar, more fiber, and sustained energy for that early morning hike.Late Fall Twist: Think pumpkin spice muffins with a touch of maplesyrup, or apple-cinnamon oat muffins with walnuts.

·      Outwith the Instant Ramen, in with "Alpine Adventure Stew": Instant ramen noodles areconvenient, but it's high in sodium and artificial ingredients. The Swap: Fishstew. Why it's better: A homemade stew, can be a powerhouse of shellfishand tomatoes, and whole grain pasta. It's nutritious, and warming. Late FallTwist: A quick stew with root vegetables (carrots, potatoes), andthyme and bay leaf. Make a big batch and reheat for easy, healthy meals after aday outdoors.

·      Dumpthe Chocolate Candy Bar, Grab a "Trailblazer's Hot Cocoa": When that sweet tooth hits, a mugof hot stuff offers more than sugar. The Swap: Hot chocolate. Whyit's better: Use whole ingredients like dark cocoa and low-fat milk. These provide healthy fats, and antioxidants without the refined sugars andartificial additives. Late Fall Twist: This hot drink spiked withcayenne or ginger is perfect for a quick, healthy boost on the go.

By makingthese simple, yet impactful, swaps, you're not just eating healthier; you'refueling your body, nourishing wholesome vibes of Tahoe days and nights!
