Decorations…in or out

Okay, I get the Christmas decoration thing but what about the rest of the time? Do you decorate your house for the season? My good buddy Tonya Kappes has a tree in her house and decorates it for the time. Easter gets adorable eggs, 4th of July gets little flags, Thanksgiving gets turkeys...you get the picture.

I don’t have an all season tree but I do decorate for the occasion. I have kitchen towels that I bring out for Easter and Thanksgiving and the like. On the 4th of July my house looks like America on steroids. I really love the flag and the RWandB theme. I tell you that Betsy Ross gal did a great design job for the country and for all of us looking for color themes.

Christmas is a given...Christmas lights outside, tree inside along with a bunch of candles and holly and fir sprigs. I never put up Christmas stuff before Thanksgiving because I totally LOVE Thanksgiving. It’s the best holiday with fam all around and there isn’t the present thing to drive me nuts.

Right now I’ve got pumpkins and leaves and black cats and ghosts with candles in my house. I’m putting up the orange lights outside with the pumpkin lights on the bushes out front and cutting jack-o-lanterns into small paper bags to use as luminaries to line the sidewalk on trick-or-treat night. I torch up the fire pit and have cider for the adults that come with their kids to join in the fun.

So why do all this you ask? I mean who really sees it? I’m a woman alone, no kids at home and they and the grandkids come on weekends but that’s it. So why bother? Well, it keeps me young and to tell you the truth I feel more a part of life and what’s going on. I don’t feel so much like I’ve got far less years in front of me than behind me. I engage and it works for me and puts a little spring in my step.

So what about you? Do you decorate for the seasons and holidays? Do you have a tree for all occasions? Stuff you drag out year after year and love seeing it all again?

Tell me about your fall decorations and I’ll give away a Lethal In Old Lace tote from the answers.

Halloween candy...or not

Okay, all the other neighbors will be giving out candy for Halloween so my thought is why not go rogue and out these healthy, non-candy ideas instead this year? Before you throw darts at me here are a few ideas that seem pretty cool.

What about these cool glowsticks? This are terrific and will keep the kids safe while they trick or treat and they can hang them on their bed when they get home to remember what great fun they had. Neat, huh!

And then there’s bubbles! I mean who doesn’t like to blow bubbles. I’ve seen adults blow bubbles for hours and fill the yard with them. Esp if I give them to the little kids who don’t eat candy. There are kids who don’t eat candy right?

What about these neat tattoos? They look great, wash off and don’t rot your teeth. Kids love tattoos. I think this is a winner...maybe.

And then there’s snack packs. Not exactly a nutritious meal but not all that sugar. What about a nice bag of fish crackers or potato chips?? Who doesn’t love a chip.

I love Halloween fun stuff like these fangs and lips. What about giving away these? A little fun that keeps on giving if you scare your mom the next morning. See, what a good idea.

Then there’s the fun pencils with cute erasers...what about that? A Star Wars pencil with light-saber eraser? Princess pencil with tiara eraser? Sounds like a winner to me.

So what do you think? Do I dare not give away candy and try this? Will I get my house egged? Would you like any of these if you were a trick-or-treater? Or do I just cave and give away Snickers like I always do?

Halloween in Savannah...oh my!

Hi, Auntie KiKi here and we’re gearing up for one of the most fun holidays in Savannah...Halloween!
Savannah may not have a lock on Halloween but we do have something special to toss in that we are haunted! Third most haunted city in the US so that’s a lot of haunting in my book.

Usually I just chalk this up to hype to bring people to Savannah. It’s good for business. The Haunted Savannah tours love it, the haunted hotels like the Marshal House loves it ‘cause it’s good for business and the restaurants like The Pirate House and the Old Pink House love it. The waiters love telling tales of peach cobbler flying across the room and room 212 that’s always cold and the phones that never work. Seems the ghosts love electronics and messing with them.

Like I said it’s the hype for the city and tourism...or is it.

Something’s in my attic! I’ve lived in my 140 year old Victorian house, Rosegate, for forty hears now and not so much as a peep. But lately there are noises, big noises. Things going pump in the night noises.
Why would my attic suddenly be haunted? What’s going on? Or is there something going on in my attic more sinister? My lovely husband Putter...named thus because he carries a putter with him everywhere...is out of town at a doctors convention. Wouldn’t you know!

Why do these things always happen when he’s away?
So my question is...do you think I have a ghost in my attic? Is it someone looking for something after all these years? Or is it just my imagination and I should go get myself another martini and try and calm down?

What’s in your trick or treat bag

Hi, Duffy Brown here and Halloween is just around the corner. I finally brought my candy because if I buy it too soon there is no candy left to pass out.
I love candy bars. I try to buy one that I don’t like but that doesn’t work as I like all of them except those almond joy thing but if I gave them out of Halloween the kids would egg my house for sure.
I have an assortment of Snickers, Hershey bars, Reese’s Cups, Skittles, Kit Kat. That should keep everyone happy. I told my daughter in NYC that as soon as the trick or treaters left I was dumping all the candy in a box and sending it off to her and get it out of my house!
I love passing out the candy maybe because I enjoyed going trick or treating so much as a kid. I remember coming back home with my cousin and BFF Barbie and we’d dump all our candy out in front of us and then start trading. Something like two Smarties for a Snickers was how it went.
After a week or so the good candy got eaten and the rest sat around till Mom tossed it out.
So what are you passing out to the trick or treaters this Halloween?
