Sherrie Cronin is the author of a collection of six speculative fiction novels known as 46. Ascending and is now in the process of publishing a historical fantasy series called The War Stories of the Seven Troublesome Sisters. A quick look at the synopses of her books makes it obvious she is fascinated by people achieving the astonishing by developing abilities they barely knew they had.

She’s made a lot of stops along the way to writing these novels. She’s lived in seven cities, visited forty-six countries, and worked as a waitress, technical writer, and geophysicist. Now she answers a hot-line. Along the way, she’s lost several cats but acquired a husband who still loves her and three kids who’ve grown up just fine, both despite how odd sh

For me it's usually that I've been ignoring my physical body for too long, and I need to stop and stretch, drink water, eat, walk, pee or rest. Often I need to do all of them. I get really caught up in trying to get a scene just right, and can find that I haven't moved for hours. That just isn't healthy. It seems to me that writer's block is my way of forcing myself to take a break.
The other time I run into blocks is when I'm trying to write a scene for which I don't have enough background. This happened in z2 when I tried to describe a civil war re-enactment, and finally realized that I didn't know enough about one to write about it! I took a break to do some research, and my husband even attended one nearby and came back with video. Of course then I had the opposite problem. I ended up writing pages describing this reenactment and had to cut the scene way back when I edited my first draft.(less)

Seeking that perfect tagline …

I get a look of panic on my face when asked to produce tagline for a book I wrote. I can either think of nothing (how can I possibly capture all that rich detail in a few words) or I can think of a whole bunch of them and they all sound stupid.

But, I’m trying, because I do understand that a tagline sells.

In late May I entered the first book in my new collection in the Self-Published Fantasy Bl

“Nobody made a greater mistake than he who did nothing because he could do only a little.”
Edmund Burke

“Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows. Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic. Authenticity is invaluable; originality is non-existent. And don’t bother concealing your thievery - celebrate it if you feel like it. In any case, always remember what Jean-Luc Godard said: “It’s not where you take things from - it’s where you take them to."

Bob Craton The amount of research that Sherrie does before writing makes those of us who just make things up as we go along look bad.
