I grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and spent most of my summers in Smithfield, Virginia.

I first realized I wanted to be a writer while attending the George Washington Carver High School for Engineering & Science – yes, there was a time when I wanted to be an architect, at least I thought I did. Then, one day, I couldn't take the boredom of another chemistry class and decided to write a novel. It was passed around to all of my classmates, who loved it. I did this several times and realized I had zero talent in math, science, or architecture. I was much better at writing, so I focused on that when I went to university.

In 1995, I chucked living in the US for the good life in Sweden with my Swedish husband.

I try not to let it get to me, but sometimes dealing with people who can't simply say they didn't enjoy your book, they turn it into an opportunity to be nasty and mean-spirited, that really frustrates me. Their love story made me dream of going to Italy and finding the one person who would know the path to my heart. Who knew the person who'd know it would be from Sweden instead? :)(less)

New year, new books on the way

Happy 2023 and Happy January! Wow, I can't believe it's been so long since the last time I updated here. I've been busy working as a copywriter at IKEA and then writing. It's been pretty hectic.

But good news: I've got a new novella out! It's called Marry Me, and it's a fun marriage of convenience story – but it's only available through The Happily Ever After Collective on Patreon.

Some books pack a punch.

Bitter Honey by Lola Akinmade is one of those books. It also falls under the category of books I wish I'd written but I know I couldn't have. It's a powerful story that spans four decades and examines the dark secrets familie

“No matter what the future has in store for us, I will always be glad that you opened the door to your life and let me love you.”
Kim Golden, Maybe Baby

“There's always women who show up who... they don't really want a baby, you know? They're just lonely. And you kind of feel like a gigolo here. You're supposed to look good. Charm the women, make them feel comfortable. You just don't have sex with them.”
Kim Golden, Maybe Baby

“Her father was an intimidating man who held fast to his belief in his African heritage; that black should not marry white to avoid racial confusion. She was in love with a white man whose mother wished to keep her family's heritage intact by not crossbreeding with another race.”
Katherine Vogel, In The Midst of Secrets

“What matters in life is not what happens to you but what you remember and how you remember it.”
Gabriel Garcia Marquez

“He dug so deeply into her sentiments that in search of interest he found love, because by trying to make her love him he ended up falling in love with her. Petra Cotes, for her part, loved him more and more as she felt his love increasing, and that was how in the ripeness of autumn she began to believe once more in the youthful superstition that poverty was the servitude of love. Both looked back then on the wild revelry, the gaudy wealth, and the unbridled fornication as an annoyance and they lamented that it had cost them so much of their lives to find the paradise of shared solitude. Madly in love after so many years of sterile complicity, they enjoyed the miracle of living each other as much at the table as in bed, and they grew to be so happy that even when they were two worn-out people they kept on blooming like little children and playing together like dogs.”
Gabriel García Márquez, One Hundred Years of Solitude

“You don’t marry someone you can live with, you marry the person who you cannot live without.”
Aleatha Romig, Consequences

“As I hear him, I understand that he's not more moronic because of the brandy than he is because of his cowardice.”
Gabriel García Márquez, Leaf Storm and Other Stories
