"This is the second book I have read featuring Kate Ellis and it does not disappoint if you are a fan. If not already a fan you have a treat in store but I’d recommend reading Love and Anger first.
This is a well written, tightly plotted police proced" Read more of this review » |

I am just posting the Editorial Review I received from Jennifer Hill on Reedsy Discovery (thank you Jennifer!). The balance between love and anger is tipped in favour of anger in this book. It’s set in 1977 in a misogynistic and racist police station ...more |

"What a brilliant debut novel from an author who has only previously published short stories. After reading the Lectures on Death collection earlier this year and really enjoying it, I wanted to see where Detective Kate Ellis began and Love and Anger "

Love and Anger (Detective Kate Ellis Book 1):

A confident debut introducing a detective who’s clearly going places. Detective Kate Ellis is well-established here in this excellent full-length debut. She comes across as wholehearted and convincing, her rise in the job shown with realism — help" Read more of this review » |

Three decades. One detective. A lifetime of cases.
Kate Ellis has spent her career chasing the truth through witness interviews, crime scenes, and the darkest corners of human behaviour. But this is no ordinary police series.
Told across both novels and linked short story collections, The Detective Kate Ellis Series follows Kate from her early years as a WPC in the late 1990s, through her rise into major crime investigation, and into the high stakes, politically charged world of twenty first century policing.
Each volume, whether a full length novel or a taut collection of interlinked cases, builds on the last. Recurring characters grow and change. Relationships deepen, fracture, and sometimes end. Threads begun in one book may not resolve until years later.
It is an immersive, character driven journey: authentic police work woven with the human cost of crime, and the toll it takes on those sworn to fight it.
Kate Ellis is a woman who happens to be a detective, not a detective who happens to be a woman.
