WWII

In the last few months I have had the chance to read several books about the WWII time period. I have always found this time to be fascinating. A time of global war, a time where many people suffered. Through this time hero’s were forged, and people came together to accomplish the impossible. The reality of the war, and what was at stake forced more unity, and increases in industry than was thought possible. Whenever we are forced to change, people can rise to the moment, and stretch beyond what they think is possible. Our capacity, and ceiling is higher than we realize, and typically adversity, and trials are what push us beyond our scope.
I really enjoyed “FDR” by Jean Edward Smith, “The Rising Sun” by John Toland, and “Rise and Fall of the Third Reich” by William L Shirer.

Thankful

I love Fall. Fall brings football, holidays, and family traditions. This time of year, my family has so many fun things we do together. At the end of the day, that is what it is all about, special time we can spend with those we love.

This week is US Thanksgiving. As much as I love Turkey, stuffing, and all the delicious food, it is also an opportunity to think about what we are thankful for. Whether things have gone well for us, or we are not where we want to be, being thankful and showing gratitude is important. One of the things it does is kill negativity. It can lift out spirits. It can also put us in a better mindset to try and help lift other people’s spirits, and to help those around us. This time of year, it is important to be grateful for what we have, and to think of others. Here are a few things I am grateful for.

I am grateful for my amazing wife, and all she does for me and our children. She is the rock of our home and brings so much joy and happiness to our family. She sacrifices her time and effort to make our home a home.

I am thankful for my amazing children, and all the things they teach me. They have helped me to be less selfish, and they are an example to me, and bring me so much joy.

I am grateful for my job at Asea, and what it provides for my family. Asea has helped me grow and develop and given me the chance to do so many things I never expected.

I am grateful for the Advancing life foundation that Asea funds, and the impact it makes on people around the world. I am proud to be part of an organization that thinks of others and tries to do its part to make the world a better place.

I am grateful for my Church, and all it does for others, and all it has done for me. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has helped me draw closer to my Savoir Jesus Christ, and helps me be a better person.

I am thankful for my testimony in Jesus Christ, and how that belief has helped guide me through my life and given me comfort when I needed comfort.

I am grateful for my extended family. I have amazing parents, and siblings who are always there for me, and have contributed so much to my life.

I would encourage everyone to take time this week to think of the things that they are grateful for. As we take time to remember these things, we will have joy, and gratitude, and appreciate what we have more.

Keeping Score

I love watching the NFL. Football is one of the things that I am passionate about. The Lombardi trophy is named after Vince Lombardi, winner of the first 2 Super Bowls. He was an amazing coach who won 7 total championships in his time as a coach. He emphasized to his teams the importance of winning, and keeping score. I have always loved this quote by Vince, and it is a good reminder of why we keep score. We keep score to make sure we are winning. We keep score to see if we are improving. We use the Key Performance Indicators to help guide us to how we improve, and end up winning. We all want to win, in order to do so we must keep score.

The Tudors

The Tudors The Complete Story of England's Most Notorious Dynasty by G.J. Meyer Years ago I was able to visit Hampton Court with my wife. It was amazing, and is a place we will certainly try to visit again. This past week I was able to finish a book about the Tudor time period in England. It was a great book, and it made it even better having visited some of the locations referred to in the book. I have always loved history, and this time period is so fascinating from a historical, and religious standpoint. As much as people focus on Henry the VIII, Mary, and Elizabeth, it was a time period of change. People were questioning the way things were from a religious standpoint, leadership, and where there place was. All of this change in thought and perspective in Europe would continue, and eventually lead to the America colony having these same questions, and creating their own nation. History is fascinating in that way, as really looking at it lets you see how things progress one step at a time. The Tudors: The Complete Story of England's Most Notorious Dynasty

Books that can impact your life

The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership Follow Them and People Will Follow You by John C. Maxwell I have always enjoyed reading, since I was very young. Partly for entertainment, and partly out of curiosity. I love reading different types of books.

I have also always been very interested in self improvement. When I was in my early 20’s I started reading development and leadership books. One of the first leadership books I ever read was “The 21 Irrefutable laws of Leadership” by John C. Maxwell. It has remained one of my favorite books after all of these years. The insights John is able to give about how all leadership comes down to influence, regardless of where we are at in an organization changed how I looked at what I could accomplish early on in my career. How John is able to teach about the law of the buy in, and how I have been able to try and utilize that lesson to get people on board has helped me grow. I will always be grateful for this wonderful book that made a huge impression on my career and development.

New Book

BECOMING Developing into the leader that people want to follow by David T Jenson I am so excited to announce that my book is live and available on Amazon. This book has been a passion project of mine for this past year. What I enjoy most about my job is the opportunity I have to help people in their development process as they become better leaders. I love to teach and help people. The chance to be a small part of someone’s developmental journey is something I feel very privileged to be a part of. Thank you to everyone that had a hand in this book becoming a reality.
My book is titled Becoming: Developing into the Leader that people want to follow
Becoming delivers a powerful and personal roadmap to becoming the kind of leader people choose to follow—not because they have to, but because they want to. Through compelling stories, real-world examples, and actionable insights, Becoming explores what it means to lead with integrity, own your impact, and inspire others through selflessness, transparency, and vision.
Whether you’re leading a team, building a business, or simply striving to grow, Becoming challenges you to take full ownership of your journey, embrace continuous development, and lead with purpose.
Thank you in advance to anyone who takes the time to read this book, and I truly hope it helps you in your own personal leadership journey. To anyone willing to share this post on their own social media pages, and I would be very grateful. Thank you again. David T JensonBECOMING: Developing into the leader that people want to follow
