Dina Santorelli is an award-winning author of heart-pounding thrillers and dark, twist-filled suspense. Twice voted one of Long Island’s best authors, she’s known for crafting gripping stories that keep readers turning pages late into the night.

Born in Brooklyn and raised in Middle Village, New York—a place bordered by cemeteries—Dina grew up surrounded by whispers of mystery, fueling a lifelong fascination with the darker side of storytelling. Now based on Long Island, she writes full-time, weaving tales of secrets, betrayal, and survival.

When she manages to step away from her desk, Dina enjoys traveling, cooking, baking, and spending time with her family and friends. She also wrestles daily with her fiercest rival: the New York Times Stra

I would say most of my books take about a year and a half to write. However, IN THE RED, my mystery thriller, took much longer. I think it was because I started writing it right after I finished my debut thriller, BABY GRAND, before I realized that BABY GRAND would be the beginning of a trilogy. In other words, I struggled with the writing of IN THE RED because the BABY GRAND story was still unfinished. I started IN THE RED in 2010 and wound up finishing the first draft in 2014! Then I wrote the two other books in the Baby Grand Trilogy and returned to IN THE RED in 2019 to finish the editing. It was published that year. So while I wasn't working on IN THE RED the whole time, it took 9 years from beginning to end! Never give up! Never surrender! :) Thanks so much for asking the question!(less)

Plotter or Pantser?

Writers are generally divided into two categories: plotters and pantsers (there’s also a hybrid of the two called “plantsers”).

Plotters plan. They outline. They essentially plot out their entire books, chapter by chapter. They know where they’re going and how they’re getting there. They create (often elaborate) backstories for their characters and detailed character profiles that include all kind
