Hi there, nice to meet you! Here are a few things about me:

I was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, back when it had more of a small-town feel. For a while I was incarcerated at (er, I mean I was a student at) Hillwood High, home of the Hilltoppers (whatever those are).

My father was a professor of Spanish & Portuguese at Vanderbilt University, and was awarded a couple of research grants which allowed us to live in Brazil on two separate occasions, once in Rio de Janeiro, once in Recife.

Later, I graduated from Vanderbilt with a double major in English Lit and Portuguese (yes, I had to take a class or two from my dad, which was awkward, but I would gladly do that again if I could see him now). Later still, I attended the graduate progra

The show was about elephants, my favorite animal, so I was paying attention when the narrator began describing musth, the state of sexual arousal that can cause bulls to rampage. Something clicked. The idea for a novel called Must came to mind, practically full-formed. I immediately went downstairs to find my laptop and typed out eight single-spaced pages of notes before finally managing to tear myself away for work (not surprisingly, I was late!). It took two years and twelve drafts to finally finish the book, but the final result is very much true to my original vision, to those eight pages of notes that seemingly came out of nowhere . . .(less)

New Novel!

Hi All,

After 3 years (and it took every bit of that), I've finally finished my latest novel. It's a story about pirates, though much in the same way that Moby Dick is a tale about whaling. Not that I'm at all comparing it to what I regard as one of the best books of all time!
