Jesse grew up in a Christian home. His father was a Mennonite Pastor and Mother a nurse. He grew up with the knowledge of God but denied the power of God to change his life. This led to a desperate search for worth, which brought hardship as he embraced the comforts of the world. He completed college at Hesston Mennonite with an associate's degree in business. At 21 Jesse had been hired as a firefighter/paramedic, married Kara and bought their first house together. A year later their son was born followed by their daughter two years after that. Jesse was 26 when the power of God's love finally broke through his hard heart. Everything in his life began to change as he pursued God with passion and zeal. God began to direct Jesse through seaso ...more

Lilia,

I'm so sorry for your situation. I just want to let you know that there is nothing good/Jesus-like/Christian about staying in an abusive situation. A spouse continuing to carry on an affair without remorse or a willingness to stop and get help is an abusive situation. There are times that I think separation is necessary. Now, I am not recommending you take steps to divorce but it might be time to have a separation. I love that you are working at forgiveness and continuing to pray for him. The more you grow and are transformed into the image of Christ, the more your spouse will see that and be impacted by it. Please feel free to ask anything on your heart and I'll do my best to answer. You're All I Need

PictureI pawed at my pockets and threw a wild glance around the bunkroom.  My phone was gone.

We’d just arrived back at the station after responding to a report of a vehicle on fire.  We hadn’t even made it to the scene before getting canceled by the first arriving unit.  It was only a disabled vehicle.

But that didn’t change the fact that we’d hustled into our full gear, and it didn’t change the fact Read more of this blog post »

“Alice looked up at the moon just starting the nightly shift. It’s light outlined a single cloud slowly crossing the sky. She chewed her bottom lip. That’s how she needed it to be. Just being close to him pushed her to the limit. Desire and fear. A cocktail better left on the table. But it burned through her stomach when they were together.

“A controlling God, who is usually represented by a controlling church leadership, is just not good news. How can church leadership create freedom and not more rules? How can we bring out the best in human beings and keep it at the surface even as we deal with their problems and shortcomings? Can we empower others and release them to live from their best natures and from the truest reasons they are alive? Will we as Christian leaders, parents, and employers take on the responsibility to learn how to draw out the dreams and destiny in the people we lead?”

“Doubt is not fatal. In fact, I would say a man who never doubts is either incredibly blessed or appallingly devoid of curiosity.”

“Can I bring the Lord back into my mind-flow every few seconds so that God shall always be in my mind? I choose to make the rest of my life an experiment in answering this question. Frank Laubach1”
Gregory A. Boyd, Present Perfect: Finding God in the Now

“If we remain surrendered to God, we’ve already died to everything decay and death could ever threaten to take away. Our treasure is no longer in things that moths can eat and thieves can steal (Matthew 6:19-20). Our heart is no longer set on things that aging and misfortune can affect. Our life is securely hidden in Christ, whose love never changes (Colossians 3:1-3). In fact, to the extent that we’re surrendered to God every moment, we’ve “been crucified with Christ and [we] no longer live, but Christ lives in [us]” (Galatians 2:20).”
Gregory A. Boyd, Present Perfect: Finding God in the Now
