Terri Bruce has been making up adventure stories for as long as she can remember. Like Anne Shirley, she prefers to make people cry rather than laugh, but is happy if she can do either. She is the author of the paranormal/contemporary fantasy "Afterlife" series, which includes Hereafter (Afterlife #1) and Thereafter (Afterlife #2), and several science fiction and fantasy short stories, including "Welcome to OASIS" ("Dear Robot" anthology, November 2015), "The Well" ("It's Come to Our Attention" anthology, Third Flatiron Press, February 2016), and "The Lady and the Unicorn" (NH Pulp Fiction "Live Free or Dragons" anthology, Plaidswede Publishing, Fall 2016). Normally, I'd be very shy and wouldn't know how to start a conversation, so having people start a conversation with me and having something that we can talk about is amazing. I've met so many wonderful people since becoming an author, people I probably wouldn't have been able to strike up a conversation with any other way.(less)

Terri Bruce I've found that writers' block is my subconscious telling me something isn't working with the story - there's a logical fallacy/plot hole to what is h…moreI've found that writers' block is my subconscious telling me something isn't working with the story - there's a logical fallacy/plot hole to what is happening, someone isn't behaving true to character, I've written myself into a corner, etc. The only way to deal with it is to figure out what went wrong - which is easier said than done. A lot of the time I have to just wait for the answer to bubble to the surface. Sometimes I can aid my conscious mind in figuring out what the problem is by jumping ahead in the story and writing subsequent scenes that I feel good/confident about. That often will reveal what the problem is - a character who will do "Y" later in the story couldn't possibly have done "X" earlier or there is no way for the characters/plot to get from point X to point Y. Once I figure out what the problem is, poof!, the writer's block is gone and I'm back on track.(less)
