Autumn
When the leaves begin to change, my heart does a little leap for joy. While I relish all of the seasons, autumn has a special place in my heart. Perhaps it is because I love food so much, and the food of the harvest season thrills me–cinnamon, pumpkin, soups and stews, pies with embellished crust. Add to the that the Thanksgiving holiday with a golden brown turkey and all the trimmings, bon fires, sweaters, football…clearly, the list is quite extensive. I’m thankful for a variety of seasons,...

Days of Rain
Last summer’s title was just the opposite, so there is no room for complaint with this summer’s abundance of rain. We replace the outdoor adventures with wonderful indoor projects–reading, writing, organizing, cleaning. We slosh to work in our rubber boots because those are the only reasonable shoe choice. Baseball games go into rain delays nearly every day, and turtles are content just to sit on the lawn. The garden is so happy although maybe a little soggy. The sunflowers bow in the breeze...

Autumn
When that cool breeze and crisp fragrance touch the air, my heart leaps for joy! Autumn. While I love all the seasons (one has to with my name), autumn is dear to me in many ways. Cinnamon, pumpkins, fields of harvested cotton, football, Thanksgiving, and the list goes on and on. The leaves as they transform into vibrant colors and the wind as it takes on a cool tinge as we change our wardrobes to include sweaters and boots complete my love for the season. Sweet potato pound cake is my curren...

Springtime
“O Lord my God, in you do I take refuge…”
Psalm 7:1
Presently, we are enjoying the most delightful spring season I can remember in my lifetime (some who have lived longer than I, can probably remember more). For weeks now, thedays have begun with a chill in the air, warming to the 70’s with blue sky and sunshine.A usual spring around here consists of one solitary week with weather in the 70’s and a forecast full of rain and thunder.
“It’s so cold for spring!” I heard someone say.
“No it isn’t–...

“It Doesn’t Feel Like Christmas”
Christmas Day was 75 degrees warm with tornado warnings and floods. Needless to say, we did not wear our favorite red sweaters and boot socks, nor did we build snow forts and Olaf. Instead, we turned on the TV channel that provided us with a live, crackling fire, making us feel like we were experiencing its warmth. “It just doesn’t feel like Christmas” we said. We sloshed through puddles in rubber boots and short sleeves before piling into the car and turning on the air conditioning.
When I...

Rosemary Macaroni
The cupboard was a bit bare at noon today, but Rosemary Macaroni came to the rescue. A splash of buttermilk, an abundance of mozzarella, and a sprinkle of rosemary turns macaroni into what may quickly become a family favorite.
Rosemary Macaroni and Cheese
1 package macaroni
8 cups shredded mozzarella
2cups buttermilk
5 eggs
1 stick of butter, melted
1 tablespoon rosemary
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
Boil macaroni until tender. Combine the remaining ingredients in a large glass bowl. A...

Just the Beginning
Yesterday’s harvest included the first plums and blackberries of the season. An abundance of basil came from the herb garden, and I could not resist making pesto. It is just the beginning of what I pray is an abundant harvest.

Farm Days
Crisp cotton sheets take the place of the plaid flannel. The dark winter dishes are exchanged for the bright dishes that will last until autumn arrives. Fresh roses create a lovely centerpiece, bringing a touch of the garden indoors. The farm undergoes a transformation inside the house and out. Roses creep up the wall just under my window, basil adds savor to a strawberry shortcake, and baby chick scurry across the grassy carpet of the orchard.
