DID YOU KNOW?? The Chevrolet Corvair was designed by a team at General Motors led by several key individuals, with styling initially driven by Ned Nickles and Carl Renner in the Advanced 1 Studio. Ron Hill Designed the 1965 model year redesign and was the Head of Transportation at Art Center College while Fireball attended from 1986. Bill Mitchell was the VP of Styling (succeeding Harley Earl in 1958) and oversaw the design, credited with the styling of the iconic 1965-1969 second-generation models.

Good morning you SNIVELIN’ SNICKERERS… and welcome to today’s AUTOMOTIVE POP CULTURE! Let’s wrap up the week with some COOL ART, starting with Fireball’s infamous BRUTE FARCE MUSCLE and a crazy SEMA Commissioned DELOREAN RED STEEL for TRW!

DID YOU KNOW?? The DeLorean DMC-12 is iconic for its brushed stainless steel body, gull-wing doors and role in Back to the Future, despite only being produced from 1981–1982. Only about 9,000 were made, and they originally featured a 2.7-liter V6 engine with just 16 right-hand drive models produced! Three 24-karat gold-plated DeLoreans were produced as part of a 1980 American Express Christmas promotion, although only two were actually sold. But the Time Machine version was originally conceived as a refrigerator that Doc Brown towed, not a car! Whoa! And the machinery (tooling) originally used to create the doors was lost for years, with rumors claiming they were dumped in the Atlantic Ocean. But they were eventually found being used as anchors for a fish farm in Ireland!!

ON LOCATION!! Heading to a show in San Diego, Fireball snagged this 1966 Mustang Fastback… but got caught up at 3 shows along the way… making the trip to SD over 9 hours!

Gregg Ovist has been involved in high-end car culture, including associations with specialized, one-of-a-kind builds and significant custom vehicles for many years. Ovist’s projects often appear in specialized automotive features, including references to unique, one-of-a-kind builds.

Good Morning, you BUMBLIN’ BUGLES and welcome to today’s AUTOMOTIVE POP CULTURE! It’s Monday and we need to get crackin,’ so let start ‘er up with some PINTO ART LOVE from CHARLIE’S ANGELS! (Don’t touch the Rear End!)

DID YOU KNOW? Sabrina Duncan (Kate Jackson) drove a iconic Tangerine Orange 1977 Ford Pinto hatchback in Charlie’s Angels. It was part of a major product placement deal with Ford. Despite the show’s glamour, this “loaded” subcompact, with its bright Alpine plaid interior, was a key, practical, and now-beloved piece of 1970s nostalgia. In early episodes (like “Angels in Chains”), the license plate was California 031 NKB, which was later changed to 846 RUZ. Later in the series, one of the orange Pintos was painted yellow and given a blue interior to be used in a different episode, though the original orange was still visible in areas like the headliner. Due to the high failure rate and low survival rate of 1970s Pintos, a “surviving” 1977 model in that condition is rare, though one was listed for sale in 2018 with its original documentation.

Syd Mead was a legendary “visual futurist” who defined the look of cinematic sci-fi in Blade Runner and Aliens while revolutionizing industrial design. He bridged art and engineering, crafting believable, functional future worlds—often described as “lucid capitalism”—rather than just isolated objects, influencing generations of designers and artists. George Lucas utilized Mead’s design expertise, with the AT-AT walkers from The Empire Strikes Back being influenced by his art. Born in 1933, the legendary future-illustrator passed away on December 30, 2019, just before the turn of the decade he often depicted. Check out all 52 BOOKS here!

Let’s start with Cheryl Ladd’s MUSTANG GHIA ART from CHARLIE’S ANGELS!

DID YOU KNOW?? Charlie’s Angels (1976-1981) was originally titled “Alley Cats” and was almost named “Harry’s Angels” before Kate Jackson suggested the final name. The famous Farrah Fawcett poster came out before the show and became an instant cultural phenomenon… and after the original actor, Gig Young, showed up drunk to record as CHARLIE. John Forsythe was called at 12:30 a.m. to voice the pilot in his slippers! The show spent a staggering $20,000 per episode on clothing and Robert Wagner and Natalie Wood were secret co-owners of the show. Farrah  famous red swimsuit poster is now in the Smithsonian!

DID YOU KNOW?? The 1979 Lamborghini Countach LP 400 S from The Cannonball Run (1981) was a real, modified supercar that solidified the brand’s pop-culture legacy. It was the first car to open the movie, famously featured a V12 engine, and was added to the National Historic Vehicle Register for its impact on American culture. The Countach was modified for the film with three antennas, a front spoiler, and twelve exhaust pipes. After filming, the car was owned by Ron Rice, the founder of Hawaiian Tropic sunscreen, who used it as his daily driver until 2004. The current owner, Jeff Ippoliti, who still drives the car which is in stunning condition!

It boasts 1,120 horsepower, air scoops from a DC-3, and parachute packs!

Good morning, you BOWERY BUNGHOLERS and welcome to today’s AUTOMOTIVE POP CULTURE!! Brand New Art on this hump-day as Fireball just completed a super cool Commission! It’s a Classic Pro-Streeted & Redlined 1958 CORVETTE for Randy’s Wooster Street Pizza Shop in CONNECTICUT! If you’re on the East Coast, you gotta hit ’em up for some delish pies!

DID YOU KNOW? The 1958 Corvette was designed under the leadership of GM styling chief Harley Earl, with Bill Mitchell heavily influencing its new, more luxurious image. The ’58 model is famous for introducing twin headlights, faux louvered “washboard” hoods, and chrome trunk “suspenders.” Ruth Glennie, one of the “Damsels of Design,” worked on the “Fancy Free” concept that influenced the ’58 interior. While heavier than the ’57, it featured a 348 cu in engine option and maintained racing performance. Zora Arkus-Duntov was developing the performance, earning his nickname “Father of the Corvette.” The ’58 redesign helped the Corvette, which was almost cancelled early on to become a profitable success!

DID YOU KNOW?? Blade Runner 2099 is a live-action limited series for Amazon Prime Video, acting as a sequel to Blade Runner 2049. Set 50 years later, the six-episode series is helmed by showrunner Silka Luisa (Shining Girls), with original director Ridley Scott executive producing. Filming wrapped in December 2024 after pandemic and strike delays. The series stars Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All At Once) and Hunter Schafer (Euphoria). Ridley Scott, director of the 1982 original, is heavily involved as an executive producer through his company Scott Free Productions and it’s rumored that Ridley Scott may direct one or more episodes of the series. 

And meanwhile, ON PLANET FIREBALL… Out and Aboooot in Ventura, it’s important for a designer to stay inspired when not creating cool cars, but keep an eye out for Fireball scooting the streets. But it’s SHOW TIME, so check out the NEW SHOWS BELOW that Fireball’s attending for THIS SUMMER!
