Let’s get this party STARTED!!

DID YOU KNOW?? The Dune Buggy — most famously embodied by the Meyers Manx — began as a California beach hobby in the late 1950s and early 1960s, evolving into a global desert and beach culture icon. Before the Manx, Southern California surfers and beachgoers needed a way to navigate deep sand. They stripped heavy street cars, welded on wide tires, and created crude “water pumpers” with water-cooled V8s. Pioneers like Pete Beirning (1958) shortened a VW Beetle floor pan for better sand handling, while others built sheet-metal “Sportsters” (EMPI) or lightweight aluminum “Burros.” These were functional but boxy and utilitarian. In 1964, Bruce Meyers, a boat builder and surfer, built his first prototype, “Old Red,” in Newport Beach. Using a VW Beetle chassis, air-cooled flat-four engine, and a fiberglass monocoque body, Meyers created a lightweight, stylish, and highly capable sand vehicle. The design was a “kit car” — the body bolted to a VW frame — making it accessible to hobbyists. Only a dozen Old Reds were made due to the complexity and cost, but the rest was history…

One of most people’s favorites, the GREEN HORNET BLACK BEAUTY was a stable in television for 1966. But DID YOU KNOW??… The TV series’ Black Beauty was a 1966 Chrysler Imperial Crown hardtop, custom-built by Dean Jeffries for $50,000. The paint job alone took 30 coats of metal flake and pure black green pearl of essence lacquer, hand-rubbed to a high gloss. Filmmakers used real hydraulics, smoke, and practical effects to make the car look faster and more dangerous than it was. Stunt drivers pushed it to its limits weekly.

This Museum is awesome and features a host of Classic Cool! Think they should have their own Coloring Book? LET ‘EM KNOW!

DID YOU KNOW?? Route 66, known as the “Mother Road”, is one of America’s most iconic highways, stretching from Chicago to Santa Monica. Construction began in 1926, but it wasn’t fully paved until 1938—a 12-year effort to create a continuous all-weather highway. Around 210,000 people used Route 66 in the 1930s to migrate west during the Dust Bowl, seeking work and survival. To attract passing motorists, towns built kitschy roadside attractions—blue whales, giant arrows, and dinosaurs—still visible today. In 1952, Route 66 was briefly renamed to honor Oklahoma humorist Will Rogers, but about 85% of the original road remains in some drivable form today as “Historic Route 66” scenic drives.

It was introduced in 1926 as a companion make for GM’s more expensive line of Oakland Automobiles. Pontiac quickly overtook Oakland in popularity and supplanted its parent entirely by 1933, establishing its position as one of GM’s dominant divisions.
