“Now there is a book coming out that says Christ was really a woman who was a lesbian in a relationship with Mary Magdalene.”
Jill started laughing . . . “Come on, people aren’t that gullible.”
“Right,” Allison said. “All you’ve got to do is tell them it’s ‘secret’ or ‘forbidden’ or ‘hidden’ knowledge, then get a movie star to peddle it, and they’ll believe anything.”

“This is outrageous and demonstrates the danger of permitting religion in the public square,” Liebowitz said. “History teaches us, or should have by now, that wars caused by religion, and especially Christianity, have killed more people than all other causes, combined.”
“I'm afraid that's not accurate. Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot each killed millions and they were all confirmed atheists,” Cardinal Guzetti replied. “Remember the Great Peoples Cultural Revolution? Over twenty million died before it was over. The killing fields in Cambodia claimed the lives of unknown millions, but some estimates suggest twenty five percent of the country's population died at the hands of the Camere Rouge. Joseph Stalin starved ten to twelve million Russian peasant farmers to death and killed another two million building the great Canal outside of Moscow. All three of these monsters were confirmed atheists . . . Probably five thousand people were killed during the Inquisition. In America, thirteen were put on trial during the Salem witch trials. Horrible and indefensible, no doubt. But millions of human beings were slaughtered by Stalin, Pol Pot and Mao. I'm afraid we Christians are amateurs compared to you atheists.”

“Ralph, none of us are strong enough to stand on our own, or to bear our own sins. That’s why Jesus died for us. Your soul is crying out to Him and you just don’t know it.”
“Isha, I’m not ready to start going to church, okay?” Every now and then she invited him to worship with her and he always declined. It wasn’t that he had anything against Christians, most of the best people he knew were Christians. When ever he’d run into an anti-Christian bigot, on the other hand, he was always taken aback by their hypocrisy. If they were “tolerant” as they claimed, then they’d accept both homosexual and Christian viewpoints, for example. Instead, they choose sides and called those that disagreed with them the bigots. Ralph suspected “tolerance” was really just a smoke screen for people who wanted to hate Christians. He couldn’t explain it, he liked Christians and disliked their opponents, but it just wasn’t for him. Isha looked at him like she could read his mind.
“Sometimes we think something might be good for other people, but not us. Then we find out we didn’t know what we were missing.” She smiled at him, leaned over and rubbed Tabooli’s belly. “Of course, I’m talking about dogs.”
Ralph smiled back.”

“Why,” Jill asked. “What's in it for them?”
“The Society for Human Enlightenment believes if they can get enough people going to Hell, God will blink,” Allison replied.
“What?”
“Like in a stare down,” Allison explained, “you know, who ever blinks first loses.”
“Their goal is to have so many people go to Hell that God will give in. The idea is if God forgives everyone who didn’t accept Christ, then He has to forgive Satan as well,” Guzetti said.
“Can that happened? Could Satan win somehow?”
“No, it can’t happen. Satan should know this as well, but he doesn’t, not anymore. Remember, no matter how wise someone is, when the presence of God is withdrawn from them, they deteriorate. That’s what’s happening to Satan, his mind is going. Satan's plan can’t work, but he and The Society don’t know that. What’s in it for them? Power. Better to rule in Hell than serve in Heaven.”

Joe, I enjoyed the Diaries of PP. Hope you continue to write this type of novel. Edge-of-your-seat page turner! Not always knowing who the good guys are. The Society vs the Fellowship are good rivals and well developed. One pet peeve, and being military you should have caught: Medal of Honor is not "won" and recipients aren't "winners." Awarded, earned, received, etc. but never won. (I am retired Navy Public Affairs and had to be alert for this and other common mistakes.) Thanks.
Thoroughly enjoyed the book!
