In his head, Jason Parent lives in many places, but in the real world, he calls New England his home. The region offers an abundance of settings for his writing and many wonderful places in which to write them. He currently resides in Southeastern Massachusetts with his cuddly corgi named Calypso.

In a prior life, Jason spent most of his time in front of a judge . . . as a civil litigator. When he finally tired of Latin phrases no one knew how to pronounce and explaining to people that real lawsuits are not started, tried and finalized within the 60-minute timeframe they see on TV (it's harassing the witness; no one throws vicious woodland creatures at them), he traded in his cheap suits for flip flops and designer stubble. His best works from a literary standpoint, though (and both are awesome) are The Masque of the Red Death and The fall of the House of Usher. I do own and have read cover to cover a volume that claims to be Poe's complete work, poems and all. Though not the same for every author, I do believe Poe's most famous stories are his better tales, with lesser known The Island of the Fay and this strange tale about a guy stuck in a balloon (the name of which escapes me) adding some peculiarity to his portfolio. Actually, he has some other very strange tales, with talking severed heads, vibrating tongues, etc.(less)

This was quick and fairly straight-forward, enjoyable. It switches between husband and wife POVs by chapter, which was a nice use of the technique to show the same action unfolding from their unique perspectives.

I loved the trilogy, but my favorites characters were actually the somewhat flawed humans - Boromir, Faramir and Eowyn (and of course Gollum).
