Since I was a child I've been entertaining myself with stories in my head, so I've got a lot of material to draw from at the moment. My greatest hope is that I am fortunate to write so many stories that I exhaust my supply of creativity. I imagine if I ever get there that writer's block will kick in at that point.(less)

In my head I've got ideas about how the story should go, but when I start writing, start editing, and start bringing those fuzzy concepts into focus, I'm surprised by the depth of the story that just seems to come out of nowhere. It always feels like the story was never mine in the first place. Instead it was something that I helped to create, but which was a living, breathing thing all on its own. It's very true (and in more ways than one) when authors say their books are like their children. We don't control them, we just help bring them into the world and shape them as best as we can.(less)

“Salman Rushdie said, "A book is a version of the world. If you do not like it, ignore it; or offer your own version in return."

So if someone tells me I've written something that's historically inaccurate, I can just tell them, "Salman Rushdie said I could." :)”
Veronica Bale

“our futures are never set out and us only one chance to take them. There are many chances in life for us to find our way to the lives we are meant to live.”
Veronica Bale, The Ghosts of Tullybrae House

“the waves slapped the rocky shore in gentle rhythm. Their song was lulling. Spell-binding.”
Veronica Bale, Legend of the Mist

“It is a cruel, ironical art, photography. The dragging of captured moments into the future; moments that should have been allowed to be evaporate into the past; should exist only in memories, glimpsed through the fog of events that came after. Photographs force us to see people before their future weighed them down....”
Kate Morton, The House at Riverton

“A girl expecting rescue never learns to save herself. Even with the means, she will find her courage wanting.”
Kate Morton , The Forgotten Garden
