I listen to instrumental music when I write. I find that DeVotchKa has that special tragi-comic essence that inspires.

Sincere thanks to all those readers who entered my giveaway and put my 'black sheep' on their bookshelves. The winners have been chosen and the books will be winging your way in the next 24-hrs. But I haven't forgotten those who haven't been lucky this time round cos, yes you guessed it, I'm running another giveaway in the coming hours...stay where you are.

Readers occasionally ask me if I have any special superstitions or routines. I like to sit down at my desk and light a candle because there's something spontaneous about a candle flame and I believe writing too is spontaneous. The flame provides an energy maybe... I also ring a hotel-reception bell (once) which announces my arrival into the pseudo-reality of my fiction, kindve like a hotel, which is a surreal place if you ask me, it's got a quasi-reality to it which is where I like to be when writing - possible but vaguely absurd at the same time...off-kilter: a normal place where Larger than Life is menú of the day.

'This is a perfect book to read if you are having a bad week. Silly and outrageous, and so much fun to read. The main character sucks you in with his quirky, pathetic lifestyle, you just want to know how his quest is going to end.'
