Alice Severin is the best-selling author of the Access trilogy - Access All Areas, Access Restricted, and Access Unlimited. Nowhere in Two Places was released a few years ago now.

Touch Memory is the newest release. Set in the world of professional top-flight soccer, it explores the relationship between two major players. Walking a line between denial and risk brings them dangerously close to losing everything.

Based in New York City, her in-depth interviews with a wide range of new and well-known musicians earned a large following. Now in pandemic mode and wondering what comes next.

How I was happy to see prominent football players, captains, wearing the rainbow armband and speaking out for LGBTQ+ rights. How far we’ve come, I thought, even now when the shadow of xenophobia and fascism is ever-present. People in the spotlight aren’t ashamed to speak out. Maybe things can change.

Some footballers have said that a premier league player who declared they were gay would be welcomed. But there have been others who said coming out would be impossible due to the abuse. The insults, the jeering. Then this type of honesty is derided, not the atmosphere.

There must be a reason it hasn’t happened yet in the top leagues.

Look at the comments. So many hiding behind a religion or saying that politics doesn’t belong in sport. This on top of an MP refusing to rebuke Millwall for booing at players taking a knee for BLM. Ignorant, fearful, hate filled comments.

The battle is not over.

This is one of the reasons I wrote Touch Memory. Because of the secrets that must be out there. Because this needs to change. Players must be able to be who they are, love who they want, live their lives.

“I've just met the love of my life and lost him all in the space of an hour.”
Alice Severin, Access All Areas

“His eyes were warm, and then they lit up with an unworldly shine, and I thought I could see down a long tunnel, through space, past time. And I felt it. I knew I was where I was supposed to be, and doing what I was meant to do. And then the words came. “It’s the only thing that matters. The feeling you get when it’s right. When it means something. Making it happen.”
Alice Severin, Access All Areas
