I read the 300 Spartans by John Burke when I was in grade school and decided that I loved historical fiction. When I was a teenager, I read The Egyptian by Mika Waltari, and was fascinated with how he adeptly wove historical events into a fiction, filled with mystery, adventure, political intrigue and philosophical reflections.

History fascinates me, particularly historical events that shape who we are. It has a major impact on my blog posts and stories, and it’s a fundamental theme in The Psalter. When I read a novel, I want to be entertained, of course, but I also want to learn something historically, philosophically, or be provoked. Let's Party Like it's 1864! - Honest Abe's Imagination Celebration

descriptionThe Nevada Museum of Art in Reno hosted a steampunk-themed party Saturday, November 1, to celebrate the State’s sesquicentennial anniversary. Nevada became the 36th state on October 31, 1864, just days before Abraham Lincoln’s November 8 presidential re-election. The four story museum was transformed into party central, with bars and sweet and savory hors d’oeuvres on three of its four levels. El Read more of this blog post »

“Women have eyes in their hearts that see what men cannot.”
Galen Watson, The Psalter

“Ardent believers hide within the safety of their absolutes, for much more courage is needed to abandon their cozy security for the questioning of ones own beliefs.”
Galen Watson, The Psalter

“The first day of spring, the vernal equinox—the season of renewal when the earth sheds its winter cloak, flowers bloom, and the heart feels as though everything is once again imaginable. The smell of fresh-cut grass, shagging fly balls, and scraping mud from baseball cleats. A brief contemplation and tear for those gone from the field, their easy laugh and nimble sprint no longer gracing the game.”

Galen Watson It's certainly my pleasure, Cheryl. It's what every writer aspires to: to have their words enjoyed by readers -- even writers who are slow starters. So, thank you, sincerely.

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) No worries mate. Me and an enterprising group member got them posted on the "free reads" thread for US and UK.

Mea culpa maxima, Hugh; I forgot to post my 2-day promotion on Book Review Exchange. An adult moment. I could do a one-day free promo so those who missed it could get the book. Perhaps we could coordinate so the maximum people would know about it. Perhaps I could do an Event to notify the most people. I’m not familiar with the best way to do it, so perhaps you could advise.

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) Hey, Galen...Are you going to post your promo in the Book Review Exchange?

Hi Rachel,
I’m working on the sequel to The Psalter now. Father Romano has to meet his destiny, and Isabelle and Pascal will be there to help him. I think it will be a trilogy, but there are even other adventures the three could have.

Rachel Will there be a follow up to the Psalter? I found it to be an intriguing book and would like to see what happens to Romano.

Galen Watson s.penkevich wrote: "Thanks for the friend request! Looks like you have good tastes, and I am jealous of the Gibson. Looking forward to discussing books and music"Thanks for accepting. I love my Gibson. I had to invest in a left-handed neck anyway, so I thought I'd buy a Gibson; although I already had a very good Sullivan. I got a very good deal when they first came out with their newest tone ring after they re-discovered their original formula in a file cabinet when they bought Dobro. So I laid down good money for it. Glad I did.

s.penkevich [hiatus-will return-miss you all] Thanks for the friend request! Looks like you have good tastes, and I am jealous of the Gibson. Looking forward to discussing books and music
