Born and raised in Australia, Katie's early years of day dreaming in the "bush," and having her father tell her wild bedtime stories, inspired her passion for writing.
After graduating High School, she became a foreign exchange student. Now she lives in Idaho with her daughters and their collection of animals.
When her debut novel, Kiya: Hope of the Pharaoh, climbed into bestselling status, she believed she was onto something, and now has a slew of novels available, and is published through REUTS Publishing and Soul Mate Publishing.
Katie loves to out sing her friends and family, play sports, and be a mother. She now works as a Special Education Paraprofessional to help support her family while she studies Education and English. She loves to w

Getting Back On Track

Yes, it's been a few years since I last published. A lot has happened in this time, both personally and professionally, but I am excited to say I am back!

A few years ago, my publisher for the Kiya Trilogy and the Fairytale Galaxy series collapsed. It coincided with certain things in my life perfectly, so I can't complain there. The rights to the books all reverted back to me. The other books

Unfortunately, the publisher they were with went out of business and I've been studying for my degree so I haven't had the chance to look for a new home for them. I'm about to graduate, so I can be more proactive on that, but they currently don't hav See Full Answer

“I will not stand by and let any man believe his death is an act of one of the gods. They don't deserve the credit. This is just nature, a side effect of mortality - H”
Katie Hamstead, Rise of a New Dynasty

“sometimes the world is cruel and there’s nothing you can do about it. You just have to accept it, and do your best to try and change the small injustices you have an influence over.”
Katie Hamstead, Hope of the Pharaoh

“You need to think for yourself. I’ve lived here for several years now, and I know this; listen to everyone but believe no one, not even me. We all have our own agendas and we will do whatever we can to accomplish them.”

“In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face is that, in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. ~ Anton Ego, Ratatouille”
Disney PIXAR

“Fat’ is usually the first insult a girl throws at another girl when she wants to hurt her.

I mean, is ‘fat’ really the worst thing a human being can be? Is ‘fat’ worse than ‘vindictive’, ‘jealous’, ‘shallow’, ‘vain’, ‘boring’ or ‘cruel’? Not to me; but then, you might retort, what do I know about the pressure to be skinny? I’m not in the business of being judged on my looks, what with being a writer and earning my living by using my brain…

I went to the British Book Awards that evening. After the award ceremony I bumped into a woman I hadn’t seen for nearly three years. The first thing she said to me? ‘You’ve lost a lot of weight since the last time I saw you!’

‘Well,’ I said, slightly nonplussed, ‘the last time you saw me I’d just had a baby.’

What I felt like saying was, ‘I’ve produced my third child and my sixth novel since I last saw you. Aren’t either of those things more important, more interesting, than my size?’ But no – my waist looked smaller! Forget the kid and the book: finally, something to celebrate!

I’ve got two daughters who will have to make their way in this skinny-obsessed world, and it worries me, because I don’t want them to be empty-headed, self-obsessed, emaciated clones; I’d rather they were independent, interesting, idealistic, kind, opinionated, original, funny – a thousand things, before ‘thin’. And frankly, I’d rather they didn’t give a gust of stinking chihuahua flatulence whether the woman standing next to them has fleshier knees than they do. Let my girls be Hermiones, rather than Pansy Parkinsons.”
J.K. Rowling

“I will not stand by and let any man believe his death is an act of one of the gods. They don't deserve the credit. This is just nature, a side effect of mortality - H”
Katie Hamstead, Rise of a New Dynasty

“I can feel infinitely alive curled up on the sofa reading a book.”
Benedict Cumberbatch
