Juliet Y. Mark is the author of Herstory, an alternate Earth, fantasy series where women rule. The series starts in The Queendom of Evlantis where the rights of men have eroded. Strong female characters bring this story to life and the first book introduces readers to this matriarchal society where the primary huwoman relationships exist between mothers and daughters. Ava, a mysterious stranger with extraordinary abilities and a different point of view, becomes embroiled in the political upheaval in The Queendom of Evlantis. It is the life of Ava, her voice growing more distinct and stronger in each novel, that the first six books in the series follow.

But, on a few occasions, I have experienced the block: time on my hands and no way to express what comes next.
In one instance a villainess ran away with my plot and I was so upset that I couldn’t type for weeks.
In other cases I knew exactly how a plot line worked out, but not a clue how the characters got there.
In the first case I mourned for weeks. One day, out of the blue, I realized that I was the author and that Sephora had absolutely no right to commandeer the action in my book! I deleted the damage she did and started over, block resolved.
In the other cases, I went about my daily life. If I did write, I only worked on pieces of the book(s) that were clear and not involved in the current block. Patience was the key. There eventually came a day, while doing a completely unrelated task…maybe working out, or driving…that the course for my characters became perfectly clear. Then I was able to return to the scene of the block and move the plot forward. (less)

I often get distracted in real life when the fiction in my head spins faster than I can record it. So, I love when time allows me to sit undistracted and set the world in my head free. It’s an amazing feeling, a cathartic feeling.(less)

Supernatural Convention (or what I did on my summer vacation)

Each one of us is a unique being of alternate realities. It is part of what creates chasms between some people, while between others it creates bonds. In today’s world we can physically travel to alternate realities for a space of time.

My daughter Kate introduced me to the alternate reality of Supernatural many years ago. This year we split the cost of a trip to Dallas, Texas to attend a three-day
