The keeper of Lost Causes
Mix c2 parts chilled vodka, one part Earl Grey tea, generous squeeze lemon and pour over ice then settle in - as much as is possible - for this riveting crime/thriller book. I've been looking for the next Stieg Larsson, Jo Nesbo. I tried one it was much to woman-violence oriented. But this book has a wonderful captivating "hero" in the new Department Q with his quirky sidekick in this Danish thriller. I can't wait to buy more. I won't give anything away - as those that know me know I don't tell plot (I hate to read plot - just stumble blindly into it). Not too violent, but a real page-turner. Carl is my new hero (even if he doesn't down vodka like our other northern heros cum cops cum thrillers) Get this book

Harlan Coben's first novel was recently re-issued. There is no doubt as to why Mr. Coben is a successful writer. The story is full of twists and turns, suspense, there are characters you fall in love with (three main ones - or two depending, but you have to read the book to understand). I could have done with out the basketball descriptions but besides that it is a light summer read. Predictable, but forgiveable - one doesn't expect more. I was a little ahead of the author and things resolved a little too well - but what the hell - fantasy is a good change.
