He Is Mickey Hadick
Writes thrillers and satire. Loves telling stories. Drinks coffee a lot. Plays ukulele often, occasionally plays well. All opinions are his own.
Reading and Writing
He fell in love with writing because he fell in love with reading first. Early on, he had a thing for Russian classics, and worked his way through Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, and Chekhov ( that took a while). Then it was American classics, especially the short stories. Then he went thoroughly modern and has been trying to catch up with this century, but with a focus on comedy and crime fiction.

Domesticity
He lives with his wife, cats, a dog or two, and adult children who come and go as they please.

Go to open-mic Story Slams and listen to the stories told there. Take classes and find a mentor to teach you about the many aspects of craft.

Pay attention to the people around you. What do they love? What do they hate? How do they interact?

Above all, write. When you can't write, think about the story you want to tell, or the lessons you learned.(less)

The Life Lessons I Learned While Watching Gilligan’s Island

My first published piece of fiction was a huge mistake and almost ruined my writing career before it started. Nevertheless, it was a valuable lesson that took me years to understand and internalize in a way that made me a better person. Also, I’m still bitter in the pettiest way possible. That first written piece ... Read more Read more of this blog post »
