Ο Ντίνος Δηματάτης μεγάλωσε και ζει στη Θεσσαλονίκη. Από μικρή ηλικία λάτρεψε τη μουσική και ξεκίνησε να μαζεύει δίσκους. Σήμερα θεωρείται ένας από τους μεγαλύτερους συλλέκτες στην Ελλάδα, ειδικά σε δίσκους βινυλίου αλλά και σε έντυπο μουσικό υλικό.

Τα πρώτα του βήματα στη δημοσιογραφία τα έκανε το 1969 όταν δούλεψε αρχικά στην εφημερίδα Νέα Αλήθεια και κατόπιν στη Θεσσαλονίκη γράφοντας θέματα μουσικού αλλά και αθλητικού περιεχομένου. Η δράση του διακόπηκε το 1972 όταν έφυγε στην Ιταλία για σπουδές στη Νομική. Επέστρεψε στο χώρο στη δύση της δεκαετίας, όταν βρέθηκε μέσα στους συνεργάτες του αθηναϊκού μουσικού περιοδικού Μουσικό Εξπρές.
