Lawrence Wray was born in Northern Ireland in 1960.
After serving his time as a truck mechanic for four years has been self employed ever since.
For some reason, still unknown, he started publishing successful bridal magazine, with absolutely no publishing experience. He then also started the largest bridal exhibition in Ireland which he ran for 4 years.
He says "I have always been a reader, first with comics as a child and then progressing to books of all kinds. When I was about 9 years old I got my sister-in-law to order a touch typing course from a club book - when all my friends were getting Action Man toys - so I guess that writing was on my mind even then. The first actual writing was when I started a video rental shop and published a we

Never experienced it.
I have dictation machines/voice recorders/phones/computer files/to do lists/notepads filled with ideas; some total rubbish and some gold.
I never censor the ideas because if you stifle the bad ones, you stifle everything. My life is filled with Eureka moments.
I have one dictation machine Amazon delivered and the next day it had a complete novel on it, but I haven't written a word of it yet. I went for a walk, started dictating and didn't stop till it was finished. Yes, sure, it's going to take a lot of editing and the plot may vary, but it's all there in one go.
I think writer's block may be caused by thinking an idea is too stupid, and if you tell your brain it's stupid, it tends to keep quiet to avoid further criticism. (less)

Write short stories and give them away.

Don't be mean to fellow authors as irrespective of your view, a lot of effort goes into writing and it takes guts to show it to the world. If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything.
Grow a thick skin. Some will love your work, and some won't. That's life.
As long as your writing makes you smile, realise that you make magic on paper and smile. Life is too short not to smile.(less)

Grave Talk by Nick Spalding
"I’d write a better review if I could see through my tears and snot. As someone who lost their big brother in 2020, I could not put this down. What a beautifully, hilariously written journey of grief. I can only imagine that those who think it’s unrea" Read more of this review »

I was recommended this book and... I can recommend it as well.
It's not cheap, considering it's only 40 pages, but it's worth ten times the price when you act on what it contains.
I finished it in a day and made a point of passing it on to my daughter.

Tom Greer Hi, Lawrence, thanks for friending me on Goodreads. My new crime novel, Death Comes Calling, is now available from Kindle ebook and paperback form, so please feel free to take a look via the Amazon UK link at the bottom.

The Kindle price is £2.99 and the paperback price is £9.32.

A successful career woman is found dead on the floor of her North London kitchen with her throat brutally slashed. Beside the body lies a half-open razor with a single droplet of blood at the tip of an otherwise pristine blade.

However, the forensics prove this razor can’t be the murder weapon, and when another successful career woman is found murdered a few days later, again in her kitchen, again with her throat cut and again with a blood-tipped half-open razor placed beside her body, Detective Chief Inspector John Gore of the Metropolitan Police fears he has a potential serial killer on his hands.

As the body count rises the pressure is mounting on Gore to quickly find and stop the killer.

Meanwhile someone is sending him taunting notes, each headed, Death Comes Calling, and Gore begins to realise the killer is playing mind games not just with the police, but with him personally. The question is…why?
