Nicki Runge is a Deaf writer, actress, and filmmaker whose work puts ASL and Deaf culture at the center of the story rather than the margins.

She is the author of Songless War, a nine-book dark fantasy saga built on a premise no other fantasy series has used: American Sign Language as the magic system. The first book, The Shadows of Memory, follows Mary Peterson — Deaf her entire life until supernatural hearing is forced upon her — and releases September 1, 2026, the first day of Deaf Awareness Month.
