Been doing it for about six years now--just passed the anniversary of when I started. I try to be zen about it. Meaning, I have missed a few days over the years but I don't fret it. The trick I learned from fellow writer James Van Pelt (really good and prolific short story writer) was to write 200 words a day. That's it. Just 200. I can toss that off in fifteen minutes. Most days I write more than that, but on those days where each word clunks from my fingertips like an anvil (too much?) and it's all I can do to get to 200 words, I'm okay with that. Since doing that I've written five books and a handful of short stories. Now my goal is to write faster and get more books out. But if I only manage 200 words on a particular day, that's cool, too.(less)
