Other times, I will switch to research and reading up material related to the scene and brainstorm ideas, until the idea coalesces.

Sometimes I'll sleep on it and the problem will resolve in the morning. But perhaps the best way to cure writer's block is to WRITE! Just write a crappy scene and move on to writing the next scene. You can then go back and re-write the crappy scene better because you will have more knowledge about the story progression. (less)

4.5, rounded up.

This was just up my alley - bonkers, funny, but with an underlying sadness, and some insightful, but not heavy-handed, things to say about how we live now. What kept it from being a full 5 stars were some meandering " Read more of this review »

This theme runs through the entire book from its startling start to its spectacular finale. The message:
Embrace the absurdity of life & take a bold leap of faith.
Trust that even in our darkest hour, the tempest brings forth the barrel - life’s ultimate call to adventure - challenging us to paddle out to sea & meet our destiny.

Sharif Khan 🚨 FOR READERS WHO LOVE DEEP SATIRE AND SPIRITUAL ODYSSEYS: If you've ever wondered what happens when The Life of Pi meets The Master and Margarita, you'll discover it inside the pages of The Sufi Surfer!

The Mystical Quest: Like Pi, Amer Fateh is a wounded, eccentric soul whose spiritual hunger drives him through impossible circumstances toward transcendence.

The Savage Satire: Like Bulgakov's chaotic Moscow, the In-sight Institute is a world of charlatans and true believers colliding in darkly comic chaos.

What sets The Sufi Surfer apart is its warm, irreverent heart: Amer's toad-venom flatulence and whirling dervish sales pitches are as theologically serious as they are riotously funny, grounding the mystical in the gloriously, stubbornly human.

👉 Add it to your TBR pile or grab your copy on Amazon.
