The Opening Line Is a Promise.

I’ve been racing to finish the first draft of my romance novel. Head down, word count climbing, thirty-plus chapters barrelling along at a very respectable clip.

And then I did the maths.

I have spent more time on the first page, more time on the first line, than I have on all thirty-something other chapters combined. Which sounds absurd when you say it out loud.
